That discomforting static had started to prickle Cloud's senses. He would feel a familiar grip, where his mind slipped from his own control, where he became a puppet to dance to an ancient calamity's tune...

And then, an unfamiliar little voice.

'Are you okay?'

In an instant the grip had been broken. The painful squeeze replaced by a smaller, quieter presence touching upon his mind.

'I'm sorry. I thought you were like me. That you were reaching out. But that wasn't you, and I have no right to be here.'

“...nngh. What?” The voice, he realizes too late, is all in his head. Entirely other, these soundless words bouncing around in his skull like lost notes off sheet music, but not in the way that he is accustomed to.

Everything is shuttered and dark.

His eyes are closed, squeezed tightly to block out the rest of the world. Cloud’s brows, drawn together to form fraught lines over his forehead, slowly begin to relax.

Taking in a carefully drawn breath, Cloud slowly opens his eyes.

Street lamps look back at him, casting sickly pale light onto the trash littered on the ground and catching the shadows of bugs attracted to the buzzing bulbs.

“Who are you? Where...?”

The Maze

Aided by Ariadne’s instructions, he makes his way throughout the maze, he steps on the bones of his people long dead before him in the dark. It is a grueling process, but he continues on forward and down, never left or right, but when he finally meets the beast he is sleeping. In the faint torchlight, he gazes upon the creature, not just a beast but also a man.

+     the  daughter  of  a  tiefling  maid   &   a  human  knight.   she  also  works  as  a  castle  maid,     when  she  actually  shows  up  for  work,     that  is.

+     is  generally  bored  by  her  life,     &     can  most  often  be  found  doing  magic  tricks  at  local  taverns,     probably  stirring  up  a  little  bit  of  chaos.     her  stage  name  is  ARIADNE.     she  has  a  taste  for  nice  things,     often  using  her  tip  money  for  fine  silks  that  she  keeps  carefully  tucked  away  in  her  wardrobe.     aria  also  has  one  tiara  that  she’s  commissioned  for  herself.     it’s  gold,  inlaid  with  pink  diamonds.     she  keeps  this  under  a  spelled  lock   in  a  box  in  a  secret  compartment  of  her  wardrobe.     though  everyone  knows  she  has  it  because  she  shows  it  off  quite  frequently  when  she  does  her  magic  shows.

+     as  a  warlock,   she  has  a  pact  with  a  patron.     for  aria,   her  patron  is  GLASYA,     otherwise  known  as  daughter  of  asmodeus     &     the  princess  of  the  nine  hells.     her  pact  was  made  out  of  a  desire  to  find  something  more  in  life.     something  exciting.     she  longs  for  a  grand  adventure  like  those  her  father  goes  on,     &     aria  knows  those  don’t  happen  for  average  people  like  castle  maids.     that’s  always  been  the  driving  force  behind  her  magic.     what  lead  glasya  to  take  the  call  when  aria  reached  out  for...     well,   anyone  who  would  listen.     in  her  own  words  :     people  like  me  don’t  get  epic  adventures,     so  i’m  bringing  the  adventure  to  me.

+     yes,   she  is  fully  aware  that  making  her  pact  with  a  powerful  she-devil  is  not  exactly  a  wise  choice.     that  said,     there  is  some  level  of  seduction  in  her  choice.     she   &   glasya  had  several  meetings  full  of  sweet  whispers,     promising  her  everything.     the  power,   the  wealth,   THE  GRAND  ADVENTURES  that  are  sure  to  come  with  status.     life  won’t  be  ordinary  anymore  at  glasya’s  side,     &     it  made  it  an  easy  choice.        [     and  yes,   if  you’re  wondering,   she  is  quite  enamoured,   thank  u.     ]

+     as  far  as  appearance  goes  :     aria  is  a  pink  tiefling  of  small  stature.     she  stands  at  5′1″.     her  curves  are  rather  average,     &     she  sports  some  pudge  on  her  arms,   thighs,   &   belly       [     she  affectionally  calls  it  her  jelly  rolls     ].     her  hair  is  a  mid-tone  brown,   but  she  keeps  a  turquoise  streak  on  both  sides  of  her  head  with  some  face - framing  pieces.     said  hair  is  wavy,     reaches  to  her  ass,     usually  kept  half  up  in  two  space  buns  just  behind  her  horns.     her  eyes  are  light  pink       [     in  any  verse  w/o  fantastical  colours,   they’re  dark  brown,   but  she  wears  pink  contacts  sometimes  bc  she’s  obsessed  with  pink  asdlfkdf     ],       &     there’s  a  scattering  of   white  freckles   all  over  her  face.     she  also  has  big  chonky  eyebrows.

+     personality-wise  :     to  be  blunt,     a  little  bratty.     she’s  the  type  to  barrel  into  things  on  whim  alone,     not  caring  about  consequences,     &     is  quick  to  get  upset  when  things  aren’t  going  her  way.     she’s  also  quite  theatrical.     reading  through  scripts,     acting  them  out,     making  the  costumes,     etc.  is  a  big  hobby  for  her.     something  she’s  done  since  childhood.     but  the  theatrics  definitely  have  a  place  in  her  everyday  life.     if  she’s  displeased  or  happy  or...   anything,     she’s  sure  to  make  a  show  of  it.     also  she  just.     she  has  # main  character  syndrome,     full  stop.     all  that  said,     aria’s  definitely  not  unempathetic  when  it  comes  to  others.     on  the  contrary,   she  loves  people.     &     when  she  gets  attached,     she  gets  attached.     she’ll  make  a  scene  for  anyone  she  encounters  who’s  having  a  hard  time       [     you’re  getting  hit  on  by  some  weirdo ?     congrats !     she’s  your  date,    &    she’s  so  glad  she  found  you ?     someone’s  bullying  you  for  your  lunch  money ?     oh,     look  at  these  big,   tough  guys !     will  you  please  be  her  bodyguard     &     escort  her  through  the  bad  side  of  town ?  🥺     ],       or  maybe  burn  the  world  down  for  you.     depends  on  how  close  y’all  are.
