Faunalia Rustica

The Roman terracotta bust of Selene, the moon goddess, is a notable artifact that portrays her crowned with a crescent moon, a traditional symbol of her lunar domain. Selene was revered in both Greek and Roman mythology as the personification of the moon, associated with calm, light, and the cyclical nature of time. This bust, housed in the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam, reflects the Roman adaptation of Greek religious themes, combining artistic elegance with mythological significance.
