Benevolence
Send me a virtue to hear how it applies to my muse!
Benevolence The disposition to do good.
benevolence in the simplest sense is something that does not apply to nina. she is not benevolent, not in the least. she has no desire for good in the world, she has no desire to better herself or the progression of the world as a whole, really. her thoughts are centric of only herself, her strength, the way it manifests, the way she can make her impact on the world and be the greatest and the strongest she can be in the brief moments she has in a waking lifetime. her life is long, it will be one of the longest of her species, but it is still less than a blink of an eye to the gods she hates. her longevity is still mortality, and that eventual fatality is what drives her towards her own benevolence, what could figuratively be called sharpening her blades.
she wants to surpass the limits of her own body. that is, in her way, the ultimate good she can do. making a mark on the world and leaving stories are not the ways she wants to leave things. she knows how she will die. her death will be punishment, her afterlife will be torture, but her moments of breathing will end in the greatest fuck you a mortal could ever give to an arceus. that is the benevolence she is working towards, having the strength to fell a god, having the ability to keep herself going far beyond her species’ mortal limits. what doesn’t kill her will make her stronger, throwing away parts of herself and augmenting her body in ways that break the limits of her powers is her benevolence. strength is her good.
she never considered the want to get stronger to protect someone, but here she is, living for her son. perhaps that’s a good in her, in some way, the way she spreads herself too thin to be something better for him, to show him a world where he doesn’t need to fear, to give him confidence in her presence, in his own identity. that is her greatest good.
she can be as strong as she likes, but until he leaves her sight, ayato is nina’s greatest good.
