Northern Comfort – By Geox
a poem where warmth is borrowed and winter stays too long He poured the north into his glass,Where silence clings and sorrows pass.Yukon sweet with Southern fire,A crossroad drink in cracked attire. A citrus flash, a splash of truth,A lemon cut that steals your youth. Then bitters dropped, like snowflakes dark,Each one a bruise, each one a mark. No fire burned, yet still it warmed. No friends…
Jungle Surveillance
a poem where vines hide wires and the leaves are always listening The canopy swayed, but nothing moved. The jungle watched. It never proved.A rustle, soft, a shadow passed.Your glass was cold, your breath held fast. Aged rum, smooth as cover names,Had crossed a thousand border games.Lime juice whispered through the green,Like secrets dropped in old canteens. Then Chartreuse crept in, green and…
Daquiri (10:3:2)
Drinks simply do not get more classic than the daquiri. Rum, lime, syrup. You can find a daquiri buried somewhere underneath most of my favorite drinks. While I'm generally a fan of a 6:2:1, Difford's recommends a 10:3:2 for an lightly aged/unaged rum, and I'm trying to finish off some Probitas, so...
1 2/3 oz rum (Probitas)
1/2 oz lime (fresh)
1/3 oz cane syrup (Portland Syrups)
1/3 oz water
8 drops aromatic bitters (Greenbar Lavender)
Shake ingredients on ice, fine strain, serve up.
It's good. Of course it's good, it's a Probitas daquiri. It's like saying the sky is blue. However, I am delighted by how well the lavender bitters worked here. Despite my love of lavender flavor, they've been sitting unused for quite some time, and seemed a fairly silly "why the hell not?" choice here. But good god do they work. I legitimately think they might have a shot at being my go to bitters for daquiris.

P.S. Coffee Old Fashioned
New Post!! P.S. Coffee Old Fashioned with Truvia because it's finally fall!!
This post was made in partnership with Truvia®. Recipes and ideas are my own.
Even though fall officially started last week, it feels like we’ve been in it for awhile now. Is it me, or is that certain pumpkin-spiced coffee drink arriving earlier and earlier each year? Now, while I LOVE all the pumpkin things, I really am not a fan of overly milky drinks (like those lattes). But I do love coffee,…
