oh honestly I know everyone is over this except me but ANOTHER hot take I have against reylo shipping is that it makes even finnpoe leave a kinda bad taste in my mouth now. Because people act like: "shipping reylo is completely separate from enforcing heteronormativity or abuse or racism ever because look *I* ship finnpoe too!"
So then like: finnpoe, a healthy mlm interracial ship that's just minding its own business, gets to be propped up as the alibi for reylos, because look, they ship a healthy mlm interracial ship too. So they couldn't POSSIBLY ever ship from a place of racism (or homophobia, or abuse romanticism, etc.) Because they ship finnpoe, see?

see another problem i have with reylo shipping is how it constantly brushes off finnrey as “boring” and the fact that it normalizes the belief that romances need “tension” to be satisfying. and that’s like.... such bullshit because so often that tension is not healthy at all.
the idea that finn and rey having a baseline mutual understanding and respect therefore makes them less compatible than two people who are complete idealogical opposites with literally nothing in common other than the fact that they’re both powerful force sensitives? f off with that garbage.
im not saying we all have to ship finnrey now, but really???? we should’ve promoted and romanticed healthy relationships, instead of romanticising violence, violation, intimidation, and gaslighting. reylo is NOT it and i don’t care if it’s more “spicy” or “interesting” than finnrey just because there’s more conflict.
the fact is, stable and healthy romances aren’t inherently less interesting; you don’t need to fight to reform your romantic interests, that’s not your job, that’s not what we should hold up as ideal or inspiring. you shouldn’t look at someone who’s abusive to you off the bat and think “there’s a sad person in there. i should fix this” no. run like hell to the people who already love and care about you.
and a lot of this is the fault of the movies themselves too of course. they didn’t develop finn like they should have so of course he’s presented as less interesting by the narrative when they chose to present kylo ren as the hero instead. which is just. bs. but you can’t forget that tlj and tros were subject to fan response, tros in particular. so uhhhh yeah. do better, fandom.
