An image captured by the James Webb Space Telescope shows Arp 107, a pair of interacting galaxies. The spiral galaxy UGC 5984 (or PGC 32620) and the elliptical galaxy MCG +05-26-025 (or PGC 32628) will eventually merge. The Arp 107 pair was already studied several times with various telescopes but the combination of the MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument) and NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) instruments allowed to capture many new details of the star formation activity triggered by the interaction between the two galaxies.

La galassia spirale UGC 5984 (o PGC 32620) e la galassia ellittica MCG +05-26-025 (o PGC 32628) finiranno per fondersi. La coppia Arp 107 è già stata studiata diverse volte con vari telescopi ma la combinazione degli strumenti MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument) e NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) ha permesso di cogliere moltissimi nuovi dettagli dell'attività di formazione stellare innescata dall'interazione tra le due galassie.

The two galaxies, the spiral galaxy UGC 5984 (or PGC 32620) and the elliptical galaxy MCG +05-26-025 (or PGC 32628), will finish this process in a merger. UGC 5984 is a Seyfert galaxy, a class characterized by an active galactic nucleus that doesn't block the view of the rest of the galaxy and spectral lines that show a strong ionization. The pair represents an interesting case of the early phase of a galaxy merger.

Le due galassie, la galassia spirale UGC 5984 (o PGC 32620) e la galassia ellittica MCG +05-26-025 (o PGC 32628), finiranno questo processo in una fusione. UGC 5984 è una galassia di Seyfert, una classe caratterizzata da un nucleo galattico attivo che non impedisce di vedere il resto della galassia e linee spettrali che mostrano un'elevata ionizzazione. La coppia rappresenta un caso interessante di fase iniziale di una fusione galattica.
