2nd POV
Sunlight filled the kitchen and danced around you as the pot on the stove boiled, you stirred it a few times ensuring it wouldn't burn before stepping away and out into the garden. You looked out onto the rolling fields behind your small cottage, with a little area sectioned off for your garden by a small stone wall that had moss creeping between the stones. And just in front of the wall was sporadic clusters of plants that thrived in the late spring sunlight, as you admired the growing plants a laughing child crashed into your legs,
“Oh, and what do you think you are doing?” You asked the child, they didn't respond and instead took off giggling. You laughed at the small childs antics and chased after them calling out to them with threats of endless tickles.
Just as you were about to grab your kid they were scooped up off the ground, looking up you were met with the scene of Kenma kissing your child's forehead and smiling down at them. Joining them you huddle close and begin to tickle your kids stomach as Kenma holds them up making sure they don’t fall from all their squirming. Sunlight shines over you all and warms you as it glints across the gold bands on your and Kenma’s fingers, and as you soak it in you are fit with a sudden wave of deja vu as if this exact scene had been something you'd seen before. Looking up and over to the kitchen door you see the shimmering outline of what you can only assume to be your younger self, you smile at them and turn back to Kenma knowing that everything worked out.

Kenma POV
Stepping out of the inn Kenma was met with the warmth of the setting sun falling onto his face, as he looked onto the streets around him he was met with the sight of children on their parents' shoulders lighting lanterns causing a cascade of colourful light to dance upon the dirt roads of the village. Turning his head he saw your smiling face waving to him as you and the rest of the group waited for him to join you.
Each party member wore beautifully elegant clothes and Kenma wondered if you all brought them or if Tendou had supplied you each with an outfit that fit each of you well. Joining up with the group Kenma was met with a flurry of compliments on his clothes and bombarded with lists and ideas on what you should all do for the evening. (Insert Name) and Tendou got into an argument about whether they should get food first or play some of the festival games dotted along the streets. Daichi, the piece maker decided that the group should split up so that everyone could do what they wanted and that you would all meet up once the festival started to slow down.
That was how Kenma ended up alone with you, his hand clasped tightly in yours as you dragged him to different games. Looking up, Kenma was met with a well-lit tent with what looked like a small river running through it; the river had other flowers floating through the water. The game from the tent was simple: you had to collect as many flowers as you could before the time ran out, and depending on how many flowers you got you could win a prize.
“I am going to get that bear.” You shouted out, pointing to the stuffed panda bear hanging on the wall of prizes. Kenma couldn't help but admire the way your face lit up with excitement and determination. Kenma knew at that moment he would do anything to get you that bear, even cheat, but he wouldn't let you know that.
Holding a net each, you waited until the hourglass was tipped over and then you shot down scooping it through the water pulling flower after flower. Kenma, on the other hand, had more difficulty, when he pulled the net up he did too fast losing the flower and splashing himself in the face with water, this happened more times than he would like to admit. Finally, the time ran out, your bowl holding the flowers was practically overflowing, while Kenmas was almost empty and he was soaked head to toe.
Holding your arms out for your prize, you squeezed it before handing it over to Kenma.
“Here I won it for you.” You spoke, looking away from him, he was glad you did because then you wouldn't see the blush that took over his face.
Just as he was about to thank you for the gift Kenma was interrupted by a whizzing in the air and then a loud crack, colour washed over your face as you looked towards the sky, and as much as Kenma wanted to see what had interested you all he could do was admire you.
“Come on, let's go find a place where we can see them better.” You shouted over the crowd, he nodded in agreement as he followed you through the crowds of people looking towards the sky and enjoying the night.
Kenma’s legs started to burn as the two of you made your way up the grassy hill, he knew that he didn't get out a lot but climbing up this hill should not have been as difficult as it was. Oh did he wish he had started working out with the guards when they had offered.
Finally, after the ages it took to climb the hill, in reality, it took only a few minutes, the two of them reached the top and to Kenmas great pleasure there was a bench just waiting to be used. So Kenma took the opportunity and collapsed onto the cool wooden surface of the bench as he listened to your awed gasps of the fireworks.
Just as Kenma relaxed into the calm atmosphere that was created around you two it was shattered by your huff of discontentment as the rain started to fall from the sky, sitting up Kenma made space for you on the bench so that the two of you could take shelter under the tree that covered the hill.
“I can’t believe this, I barely got to watch them, and now it's all over. I never get to see fireworks and the one time I do it has to get washed out by the rain doesn't it.” You complained as you slouched down crossing your arms with a comically large pout on your face. Kenma couldn't help but let out a small chuckle at your childish actions which only worsened when you sent a glare his way causing Kenma to cough to try and cover up the new set of laughter that went through him.
“You know I have been meaning to work on my illusion magic for some time, and this would be good practice for me,” Kenma spoke after calming down from his fit of laughter. Looking up at him with wide eyes you quickly nodded your head and motioned for him to start the spell. Moving his eyes from you he focused on his hands before whispering a spell under his breath, and just like that sparks of colour started shooting out from the palm of his hand.
“That's amazing Kenma, when did you learn how to do that?” You questioned, voice filled with excitement as your eyes studied the small shoots of colour.
“It was one of the first things I was taught.” He answered back, smiling down at you. Looking up from his hand both of your eyes connected and at that moment Kenma was sure he felt a spark.
“Well, it’s amazing, you're amazing.” You whispered out, as your eyes flickered across his face lingering on his lips just a moment longer than anywhere else. There was no time to think the two of you started to lean into each other.
Suddenly a loud crack of thunder hit causing the two of you to jump apart from each other. The sky had gotten much darker, the sun had fully set a while ago and the storm clouds blocked out any light from the moon.
“We should get back to the inn.” You rushed out, looking towards the sky. Kenma quickly agreed with you wary of anything else that might come from the storm.
Quickly the two of you made it down the hill trying to avoid slipping as the rain had created large puddles of mud and the two of you would hate to have to deal with Tendou if you ruined his clothes. Finally, the two of you made it back to the inn but not after being thoroughly soaked.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Kenma.” You spoke, making your way up the stairs after you bid the rest of your friends a good night. Deciding you had the right idea Kenma followed up the stairs and turned into his room to process the event of the day.

Kenma POV
Kenma shot up and gasped out from his sleep at the feeling of being shaken, looking over he was met by your face, you were holding up a lantern.
“Come on Kenma, it's time for our shift.” You whispered so that you didn't wake anyone else up. Holding your empty hand out to him you stood up and motioned for him to join you. Kenma grabbed your hand and hauled himself up, he expected you to let go of his hand but you didn't you just held on tighter and dragged him over to your lookout point. Lighting a lantern you hung it up on a tree branch beside the rock that you had poached yourself on.
“Here come sit, that way we can watch each other's backs.” You started patting the rock, Kenma took the invitation. He felt heat crawl up his neck and take over his face as his hand was enveloped by yours.
The two of you sat like that in silence while you watched the woods, it was quiet for the most part the only sound coming from the whistle of leaves in the wind and the call of owls. It was peaceful and Kenma could enjoy that, but he couldn't help the feeling that something was watching him just waiting for him to look away so that it could get him, he tried to ignore the feeling but the more he looked out into the forest the more paranoid he became. The clearing was illuminated just enough that you could see where the rest of the group was resting and the outer edge of the clearing and just into the thick bundles of trees around it.
The more he looked into the forest the more he felt like someone was watching him, that something was stalking him like prey waiting for him to make the move that would seal his fate as just another animal lost to the wilds of nature. Kenma scooped back on the rock so that his back was right up against yours, he relaxed slightly when he felt your hand squeeze his, that calm he felt quickly turned to a cold sweat when he heard a rustling in the bushes just outside of the light of the lanterns.
Kenma squinted as he tried to get a better look as to what had made the noise but looking at the bushes all he could make out was some shapes of the leaves and some of the reflections they gave off, the shadows the trees cast down upon it, and two stony spheres staring right back at him. Kenma froze, something was definitely looking at him and whatever it was was aware that Kenma knew it was there. Kenma could barely make it out but he could see the creature's lips split open into a grin, a grin so large and so horrific that he knew this thing was not friendly and had no intentions of leaving the group in peace.

2nd POV
You loved this, you loved this time of night where everything was calm and the only things that could be heard were the nocturnal creatures of the night as they went out for food and to go about their normal duties. Usually you would sit and watch alone and as much as you liked to be alone with nature, being able to share this peace with someone else is something that you had always wanted.
The longer that you sat the more relaxed you could feel Kenma becoming. You didn't think that that would be something that would happen, in all honesty you didn't think he would be so willing to help out with things that were happening around your camp but you were glad that he did.
Suddenly you felt Kenma tense against your back and his grip on your hand tightened significantly. This worried you, because if he saw something out there it could put all of you in danger.
“There's something watching us.” Kenma whispered out. Right after he said that you heard one of the bells on the outlying posts Daichi set up, then you heard another and finally a third one. You grabbed Kenmas hand and quickly made your way back to the centre of the clearing where you and Kenma started waking the others up.
Just as everyone had woken up you felt something slam into your side and you went flying across the clearing where your back smashed into trees on the other side. Your head was pounding and your ears were ringing so much you could barely make out what your friend was screaming. You tried to see what was going on but it was all blurry, and the more you blinked the more blurry it started to get. You noticed black spots were starting to invade your vision, you couldn't pass out now not when your friends needed you not when they were in danger.
Just as you were starting to push up from the ground you felt your legs being grabbed and suddenly you were hoisted back up into the air, tensing your body you waited for impact with the ground but it never came instead you stayed hoisted in the air unable to see what exactly had picked you up.
Finally your vision cleared but in that moment you wish it had not. Right below your face was a stone troll, its giant head sat on an even bigger body, its complexion was a cool grey that matched its homeland of the mountains, and its face had a huge snarling grin. Just as it looked like it was about to throw you again its head whipped around at the sound of a howl.
The troll dropped you and went over to to the origin of the noise, picking yourself up your eyes followed after the troll to see two more, one grabbing at Akaashi as he dodged easily and the other the ground howling in pain with Daichi moving away from him to the troll that had attacked you.
"Here you're going to need this." Someone spoke as they shoved something into your hands, looking over you were met with Tendous worried expression you nodded and followed along after him.
Feeling what was in your hands you realised that it was your bow and arrows speeding up you found a spot a good ways away from the trolls but close enough that you could still get a good shot on them, taking aim you pulled the bow string back and let the arrow fly.
The arrow hit the troll on the ground in the back of its neck, you watched as its head slumped back onto the ground before taking aim at the troll Daichi was fighting.
Suddenly the troll that had attacked you came right at Daichi, you realised that Daichi was clueless to the attack that was about to happen. Just as you were about to yell out a warning to your friend and bolt of lightning hit the troll, sending him flying and crashing into trees just outside of the clearing.
Following the line in which the lighting came from your eyes settled onto Kenma, he stood with his hand outstretched. He was panting and he moved back to a standing position as he moved towards the troll Daichi and Akaashi were currently entertaining. You watched as Kenma came to a stop behind the troll, setting his feat apart into a stable position and stretching his hand out like he had before, and then another blast of lightning shot out from his hand and hit the troll in the back of the head. Kenma let out a shout of warning as the troll started to fall, Akaashi and Daichi heard his shout and moved out of the way just in time.
Loosening your stance and relaxing your muscles you felt your body start to become heavier, sitting on the ground you felt more and more of your energy deplete as the adrenaline rush started to fade away. Your vision started to become clouded by black dots and your ears started to ring. Finally, you felt your body tip over and you were greeted by an expanse of darkness as you fell unconscious.

Kenma POV
The doors flew open and in walked four figures. Each person distinct with their appearances.
The man on the far left was shorter than most of them, but had a larger appearance as he was covered in bright armour. On his hip was a large sword, with a silver handle, intricate designs across the handle and blade, and opals encrusted into the handle.
Standing beside him was the tallest of the group, he had bright red hair that rivalled the atrocious colours of his outfit. Slung across ⁸his back was a guitar, and from what I could see the guitar was painted with gold designs.
The other man in the middle was slightly shorter and had dark hair, and seemed like the most serious of the group. Wrapped across his wrists and his boots were flowering vines, while his robes seemed to flow around him with water.
The last in the group was dressed in a basic rangers outfit, dark layered shirts, dark pants, dark boots and a forest green cloak lined with fur. Strapped on their hip was a quiver of arrows with markings in the leather, across their chest was a string connecting to an intricate longbow.
"Welcome to my home, great warriors, I am glad that you could make it." The King stated, opening his arms in a grand gesture of welcoming.
"Thank you for having us, your majesty." The paladin spoke, as each member of the party bowed in respect to the king.
"Oh, please do not thank me. If anything I should be thanking you, as I do have quite the task for you to complete." The King spoke with great urgency, as he led the group out of the main hall and into a smaller room.
Kenma recognised this room as the war room, he remembered it from when he was an apprentice being in the room with his master while the generals got into heated debates about the best tactic for guards around the castle and tactics against enemy armies.
"Please have a seat while we discuss plans." The King said, waving his hand towards the seats around the tables. Kenma took his seat beside the king while the other four in the room sat across from them.
"Well now that we are all together, I think that it would be a good idea to introduce you all to my mage, Kenma." The King said, as he slapped a hand on Kenmas shoulder.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, my name is Daichi." The paladin said, smiling brightly at the mage sitting across from him.
"This is Akaashi our druid, Tendou our bard, and (Insert Name) our ranger." Daichi continued, pointing to each person sitting at the table. Kenma nodded to each of them, but when he looked at (Insert Name) they shot him a smile that caused him to look down at his hands bashfully.
"Good, now that we all know each other, we should get down to business." The King said, standing up and grabbing a map off the shelf.

3rd POV
After the meeting in the war room the king had some maids bring the group of adventurers to the rooms they would be staying in. After each member of the team had settled in, the king sent a butler to each room to invite them to a dinner in the grand hall.
As the adventurers made their way through the castle, they admired the many decorations around the halls, the beautifully made windows, and the extravagant tapestries and paintings adorning the high stone walls of the castle hallways.
“Oh my, the paintings here are beautifully done. And windows are just extraordinary.” (Insert Name) stated, as they quickly looked around the hallway not wanting to miss anything. Akaashi nodded in agreement,
“You are right (Insert Name), they are quite nice.” Akaashi spoke smoothly, gripping onto his friends shoulders and leading them away from the window that they had glued their face onto.
“You know you really shouldn't touch anything here, if it breaks we most likely would not have the money to pay for it.” Daichi spoke seriously, as he urged the group to the grand hall not wanting to keep the king waiting any longer than he had to.
“Oh lighten up Daichi, we would never break any of this stuff you know how careful we are.” Tendou stated, as he slinked along beside the group's leader.
“Cave of glass.” Daichi deadpanned, looking straight at the bard. Who shrunk away from his friend in embarrassment.
“Well anyways, I think this is a good opportunity for us to solidify our spot as heroes in this kingdom's history, and not just as a band of adventurers who sometimes find themselves in trouble with the law.” (Insert Name) said joyfully, as they skipped down the hallway.
“You have a fair point (Insert Name), but what is that little wizard fellow slows us down.” Tendou said, from the back of the group.
“Well if the king thought he was going to slow us down he wouldn't have said that he should join our adventure, now would he.” (Insert Name) countered matter-of-factly, then turning around to stick their tongue out at the bard.
As Daichi scolded the two for their childish behaviour the group finally had made their way to the entrance of the grand hall.

3rd POV
The land had fallen under a terrible streak of horrible happenings. The crops had all died out, for the many rivers and streams around them that had once nourished the soil they grew in dried up. Many of the livestock kept on the farms had been stolen or simply disappeared, and many of the animals that were fair game to hunt seemed to have all moved someplace else.
But along with the food and water shortages came sickness, it plagued the people draining them of their strength and their health. And with the sickness came many different storms and with the storms destruction. Fire, earthquakes, and monsters bring the knights away and thinning the resources of the kingdom.
But there was hope, a whisper in the wind. A group slightly famous for their grand adventures and heroic acts. But even more famous for their destructive stays in nearby towns.
But none of that mattered because they were of noble heart and never backed down from a goal.
And so hope was given to the kingdom that one day it would return to its former glory.

Kenma POV
'Why had the king ordered me to the main hall? What is going on, why does he need me? Was it one of my spells, did it go wayward? Please let it not be bad.' Kenma thought, as he walked through the bright corridors of the castle. Honestly if Kenma wasn't so worried he would probably….. still be inside. No matter how nice the weather Kenma liked the indoors, he was happy that he got to work in the castle. It was nice.
As Kenma pushed open the main doors of the hall he noticed the king hunched over papers. Kenma knocked on the wall to make his presence known to the king.
"Ah, Kenma, you are here. Good good, come in." The king said, as he gestured the young mage into the room.
"What did you wish to speak with me about, your highness?" Kenam asked, as he approached the table. The king gestured for him to sit as he placed himself at the head of the table.
"Right, I wanted to speak with you about a group of adventures I hired to find out what is causing this misfortune. And for them to put a stop to it." The king spoke, as he looked up from the papers over to Kenma.
"That is good, but what does that have to do with me?" Kenma asked, as he fiddled with his hands.
"Well, this has to do with you, because I want you to join them on this venture." The king stated strongly.
"What, why do I have to go with them. I am much better suited at the castle where I can't get hurt, and I have the resources I need to do magic." Kenma said, raising his voice as he did so, realizing what he had just said, he quickly apologized and resituated himself in his chair.
"I understand your stress about this Kenma, but I think this is for the best. For the kingdom and for the increase of your skill, any good mage should be able to perform their magic under any circumstances, I just want that for you." The king said gently, causing Kenma to try to understand why his king wanted this. Although he did not agree with that.
"Alright, when should I begin to prepare for this venture?" Kenma asked.
"Right now." The king stated.
"Really?" Kenma stated, flabbergasted that he had to prepare right at the moment.
"Yes, the adventures should be here by nightfall and you must be ready to leave with them as soon as possible." The king said, ushering the young mage out of the room to his tower.
Kenma huffed as he started the trek back up to the mages tower to prepare for the long journey that he had very little time to prepare for.
'What exactly do you pack for a quest?' Kenma thought to himself, as he walked around the tower looking for a bag that could carry the stuff he needed on the trip.
Finding a shoulder bag to hold his books and other magical items, Kenma started to quickly pack away his stuff. Grabbing a few notebooks, spell books, potions, and herbs. He put the bag onto a chair so as to not knock it over and damage his things.
Finding another bag Kenma quickly went back around the room grabbing clothes, medical supplies, and other things he might need while on this trip.
Lifting his head up at a knock on his door, Kenma quickly stood to go see who it was. Opening the door stood one of the servants.
"The king requests you in the main hall." The servant said, stepping out of the way to let Kenma leave the room.
Kenma quickly made his way down the halls and into the main hall stepping over to where the king beckoned him to stand.
“What did you need, your highness?” Kenma said slightly out of breath.
“They are here. The adventurers that are going to save us.” The king stated proudly. Just as Kenma was about to say something, the doors to the hall opened and four figures walked in.

Cold, cold darkness that ripped through the towns and villages ruthlessly with no second thought. Casting all inhabitants unlucky enough to fall victim to it into deep sickness or despair.
A life stripped away from the plants, animals running in anticipation of what might happen. And water leaving its streams in fear it might be corrupted. All joy that once filled the prosperous kingdom now gone.
Wars and fights, disputes that had been settled long ago starting over. All from the darkness one lonely temple brought. The temple reaching its full power would utterly destroy the kingdom and its people.
So to stop it, those realising what caused went to destroy the temple. They were not the average heroes. Some say they were a band of mercenaries looking to keep the world running for money. Others say they were simply ne'er do wells. But one thing is for certain, The world was never the same again.
Not to say that it was bad but the world was changed. There was unrest everywhere. There was no rule, no laws, no law enforcement and no one to look to in times of crises.
Famine and disease swept over everyone until one man decided to take charge of his community. The capital had already fallen and was mostly destroyed at this point meaning the village now became the new capital.
People flocked here looking for some sort of order and safety. And so it grew, the town turned into a city then became the capital. A castle was built for the leader effectively bringing in an era of prosperity and peace. The rise and the heroes who stopped lost to the sands of time.
But things if not taken care of properly might just come back to destroy much more.

Kenma POV
The man in front of the altar was menacing, he was chanting something and the red glow under his skin seemed to intensify, and with the growing light under his skin the storm grew with it. The thunder changed from its loud rumblings to the sound of beating drums, it felt as though they were being beaten from within our ears, and the lightning had begun to intensify too. The cracks that were heard along with the lightning changed so that there was also a sizzling sound as if it was striking and burning something in the air. The atmosphere seemed to tense up in apprehension and it felt like boulders had settled into the bases of our lungs as the moments passed.
Finally after what felt like years the weight around them lifted, the atmosphere lightened and it felt like something had changed. Kenma took the moment to breathe and feel some semblance of peace before he realised it was quiet, the storm had not become more quiet he was sure that the thunder still roared in his ears and the lightning still crackled around him, burning up all that came into its path. He could still hear the breathing of all his companions, then it hit him, the chanting had stopped.
His eyes traced back to the man in front of the altar and found that he was facing their group, he was terrifying, he moved with an ethereal grace towards the group his eyes gleamed red in the light and he had ivory horns that curled back and around his face giving off the illusion of a helmet. As he began to draw nearer it set the group into action as they realised that the final fight was now. They descended from their percher on the side of the bowl and began to spread across to surround the man, he only laughed as they readied themselves to fight.
“This is who is sent to deal with me, I feel as though I should be insulted.” The man chuckled out as he surveyed us. “I caused this much death and all they send me is some ragtag band of adventurers and some sort of half baked mage.” The man stated, staring directly at Kenma as he said that. “Honestly though I am relieved, killing you all will be quick and I can bring my lord back so that he may take his rightful place as the true lord of this land.” No one responded to his statements but Kenma did see you tense up when he was insulted and it made his heart flutter, Kenma shook away those thoughts he had to focus or he could end up as one of the bodies on the altar.
Suddenly there was a crack, the loudest crack of lightning yet everyone looked up to see bright red streaks of lightning shooting towards them, Daichi quickly raised his shield, it seemed to hold some sort of enchantment as it glimmered with magic once the lightning struck. Kenma, Akaashi and Tendou all cast quick shielding spells diverting the lightning back up into the sky. Kenmas quickly turned towards you realising that you lacked some sort of protection from the attack only to see lightning strike and create a crater right where you had been, he looked for you through the rising dust and saw a dark figure about five feet from where the lightning had struck. As the dust settled Kenma recognised your face and was shocked by how fast you moved.
It all began to move quickly after that with you notching a few strangely coloured arrows into your bow and letting them sail towards the horned man as Daichi unsheathed his sword and started charging the man. The arrows hit one sparking fire on contact and the other to catch fire, creating burning wounds on the man from where they had lodged themselves into his skin. Daichi reached the man and swung his sword at him, the man seemed to have recovered from the initial shock of the fire and dodged out of the way. The man was then suddenly shrouded in shadows that put out the flames and dislodged the arrows, wrapping themselves around the wounds like bandages applying pressure, the shadows also launched out towards Daichi forming into the shape of a person.
The shadowy figure sent some of its shadows out behind it and they returned with what looked to be a bone whittled into a sword. Once the shadowy figure had the sword in its grasp it immediately lunged at Daichi forcing him into combat with it instead of the horned man in the centre. From the shadows that had now pooled around the man creatures started to take shape, they were smaller and were shaped more like animals in comparison to the one Daichi was fighting. Then the shadow creatures shot out towards (insert name), Tendou and Akaashi, the creatures were obviously a way to separate them from fighting as a group. The ones that targeted Tendou and Akaashi ran at them launching themselves and trying to knock the two magic users to the ground, Akaashi summoned some vines to help maneuver himself away from the creatures and to attack them. Tendou started to shoot out spells and blasts of magic as he strummed quickly on the strings of his instrument. The creatures that shot towards you took to the sky flying to your bow and keeping you from having a clean shot at the master of the creatures.
To help you as you maneuvered away from the creatures Kenma began to cast a spell to attack the creatures but before he could cast it something struck him in the back knocking him down and dispelling the magic he had been preparing. He looked up and found the horned man towering over him, Kenma shot back in an attempt to preserve his life. As he retreated from the man he started preparing a blast of electricity to shoot towards him, as Kenma launched the spell the man let out a blast of energy that knocked away Kenmas shot of electricity and forced Kenma hurtling back. As Kenma tumbled he felt things start to cling to his clothes and weigh him down, looking he saw dark crystals growing from the ground and beginning to incase his legs within them quickly he shot a blast of energy shattering them so he could get up.
Kenma got back up and began quickly firing off shots of energy towards the horned man as he quickly began to approach, as Kenma tried to step back he found his feet were again encased within the black crystals but this time they were growing across his body faster.

2nd POV
There was a crack of lighting and then bam it was like you were suddenly surrounded by a moving flapping cloud of darkness, they swarmed you like starved mosquitoes stretching and biting at the leathers covering your arms as you tried to fight them off. You tried loading your bow and shooting at them but they were much too close to you for it to actually be effective, quickly you switched from your bow to a short sword.
You did better now as it was much easier to dispose of the dark shadowy creatures in close combat now than trying to create distance and shoot them down, you worked quickly slashing the creatures though they would reform a few seconds later. As this kept happening you noticed that when they were destroyed for a few seconds they dropped a dark crystal and reformed around that, the next time you slashed one of them you were quick to shatter the crystal. Slowly the dark hoard around you started to dissipate as you shattered the crystals one by one, Just as you finished disposing of the creatures you spotted Kenma facing off against the horned man.
Something was wrong, Kenma wasn't getting up and it seemed like something was trapping him down. Looking closer it seemed like the crystals you had destroyed in those creatures was the same material as what was beginning to incase Kenma. Searching for your other companions you saw that they had seemed to figure out the way to destroy their shadowy opponents finishing off their battles, you knew what you needed to do.
“Daichi, Akaashi, Tendou converge sky.” You shouted out to the three of them, they instantly knew what to do. They rushed from where they were and began an attack on the demonic man blasting and slashing at him as a distraction while you rushed towards Kenma.
“Kenma, are you ok?” You asked as you got over to him, you tried to pull the crystal away from him but nothing was working it just kept growing.
“I am ok for now, I just worry for when the crystal encases my face I don’t know what will happen then.” he responded in a voice you found far too calm for the situation he was in.
“Why aren’t you more stressed if this keeps spreading you could die.” You spoke quickly trying to shatter the crystals with the handle of your knife.
“I kind of figured out what the spell he used on me is, though a much more modified and darker version. It is a preservation spell intended to be used for holding flowers of weak remnants of magic, what I am worried about is if the modification will kill me or not, in the original spell things stay unharmed but with this I’m not sure.” Kenma answered back.
“That still doesn't explain why you are so calm you don't know if you will survive it or not.” You retorted.
“That's the thing, even with modified spells they still have to use the same base spelling meaning there is a base crystal, the spell is put through this crystal and it basically duplicates itself around things when the spell is performed we just have to find the crystal and destroy it to release me.” Kenma explained.
“Great, so where is this crystal because it could be anywhere and I can't exactly shoot an arrow that far and we kind of need to do it now because it doesn't seem like we have much time left.” You spoke back pointing out how the crystal was now slowly creeping up his shoulders.
“I think the crystal is at the altar, not only do they store magic well, it is a good conduit for summoning.” Kenma said. After hearing this you shot away from him and sped over to the altar to try and find the crystal Kenma explained.
None of the crystals there really were the same as the crystals that were now creeping around the back of Kenmas head, you became more urgent remembering what you saw in your vision of dying and trying to find a way to save him. You were distracted and focused in on searching that you didn't notice the streak of shadow rushing towards you until it cut a large gash into your side, causing you to fall and clench your side in pain turning to face where it came from.
You turned, seeing the demonic man walking towards you now, your friends were nowhere to be seen and Kenma, having the crystals slowly encased his eyes as he looked over to you one last time. You try to step back to distance yourself but your feet don’t move. Looking down at your black crystals crawling up your legs. You pull out your bow in a final attempt to defend yourself before you lose all movement.
As you took aim at him you saw a crystal that seemed to be protruding from his, it was the exact same as the creatures that attacked you and looked exactly like the crystal that had now almost fully encased Kenma and was slowly encasing you. Seeing this you focused, this was it life or death you took aim and breathed. You focused like it was the first time you were hunting again, you were with your father and had just found a rabbit. You had to be quick and accurate, focus, breath, aim, draw back, breath and release.
You closed your eyes as the arrow left your hold, you heard it whistle through the air moving swiftly before you heard what sounded like shattering glass.
The arrow had hit its mark.
You heard more sounds like shattering glass and suddenly your knees were free, you fell to the ground before you opened your eyes and looked up, the horned man was gone and you could see your old friends picking themselves up off the ground and limping over. The sky had cleared of the dark storm into a light shower of rain, you looked over to Kenma and saw him passed out on the ground but free from any crystal that had previously been encasing him.
Quickly you got up and stumbled your way over to him, you had to know that he was ok you had only just come to terms with your feelings you couldn’t lose him now. Finally getting to him you collapsed down beside him and pulled his head into your lap, he was breathing however faintly it was he was breathing. Finally you let yourself feel and tears began to stream down your face as you took in the fact that you had won, it was over you all survived.
As the tears rolled down your face you felt a soft finger brush them away from your cheeks, looking down you saw Kenma smiling up at you as his hand laid across your cheek cleaning the tears away.
“I’m ok, you're ok. It's over, we won.” He whispered up to you as he smiled looking into your eyes.
“Ya not too bad for your first adventure right.” You joked as he sat up leaving your lap.
“Ya not too bad.” He agreed as he reached up to hold your cheek, he brought his head closer and leaned his forehead on yours before our lips met in a kiss that sealed off which future you would get.
You could only smile thinking about what your life would be like in a few years, you couldn't wait for that peaceful life with Kenma.
