Hyperborea group again this week, I missed last week.
We added another guy to the group, he’s played with everyone else lots but I’m not sure if I’ve met him in person before. He’s playing a shaman of.... nyarlathotep??? Or something like that?? So he’s the best healer of the group. He’s also the wealthiest party member.
He’s got two beefy henchmen which were immensely helpful because a lot of us rolled quite poorly. Especially me.
We were exploring this underground?? Tunnel system? That’s got like a cultist temple in it? On the other side of town from the last place we found on of those- last session that I missed the weird rat filled temple under the inn was cleared up and we live there now? For the time being I guess?
We fought some critters down there- giant centipedes and spiders and snakes and it went pretty well. The ranger and thief went down.
I found a magic ring of invisibility inside the snake.
When those two healed from this and we went back down thief triggered a trap and unleashed a “green slime” and panicked the shaman in and out of character who immediately threw all of his Greek Fire at it unfortunately he crit failed and hit me instead sending me to -2 hp. I’m not sure how I did on my death saves honestly? I’m not sure how all of the checks and saves work??
I’ve never had a character be set on fire before so this was very interesting. I was healed enough to not die as they explored a little further and I didn’t have a lot of hp to begin with so It didn’t take long to return to full health when we got back to the surface, Even with the weird health restoration rules.
The henchmen were a great help in combat but mostly they were great for carrying downed party members.
I’m not too sure about the guy playing the shaman? He didn’t say or do anything blatantly gross but there were a few things that made me a suspicious.
“If you’re a fan of critical role you are not getting healed. No I’m not kidding.” Thankfully it seems his only criticism is about the bad parts of the fandom (fans getting too attached to molly and acting badly when he died, fans putting unrealistic expectations on their gms/players) and how it seems like the characters are not ever in enough danger... how it felt to him more like a “story game” than a “real” rpg. Unlike for example the right wing homophobic shit bag loves cr for some reason??? but hates that the cast is all quite liberal and they and their game are lgbt friendly.
I didn’t bother mentioning I watch/listen to it. Not so much out of concern for my characters health but because shaman and shit bag argued about it after our separate games ended and everyone was starting to leave and I didn’t want to be on the same side even vaguely as that fuckface.
I talked to werewolf gm about how the ravnica campaign she’s playing in is going. Pretty good. It sounds like the gm is learning quickly and making lots of progress each session, though he’s bad at describing like... maps and spatial things? But some graph paper is probably the easiest solution either him drawing it or somebody in the group.
Which is great to hear because he was pretty nervous about it and really wants to do a good job so he’ll feel ready to do this other, bigger, thing he’s much more excited about.
