Before she could second-guess herself, she grabbed hold of Hubert’s collar, only just noticing how his eyes widened in the fraction of a second before she tugged him down into a kiss.
A choked sound came from Hapi’s direction at the same time as Sylvain let out a low whistle. Hubert, on the other hand, was frozen in place.
To his credit, however, he did not instantly push her away. She had expected him to; perhaps even to teleport away the moment he realized her intentions. But no: he stood still, locked in place against her lips. And then, the most incredible thing happened.
With a defeated sigh, he wrapped his arms around her, lifted her up a few inches from the ground, and spun her around in the air for a moment before setting her down again. When the heels of her shoes once again met with the ground, he ended the kiss and pulled back with an unreadable expression on his face.
And despite their current company—or perhaps because of it—Constance found herself blushing profusely.
