I made a movie
No drawings, just words! The (in progress) back story of Jon and his pigeon.
Jonathan was born into a wealthy family, the only child of a business man and woman who ran a major factory in the city. Living in a Victorian country house, he was often spoiled by his parents when they were home, and given lessons such as piano and writing daily. Since the house was located in the country, he was also isolated from other children in his younger years, instead spending his free time with toys and books, or exploring outside. His parents sensed the boy's loneliness and made arrangements to move closer to the city for his 10th birthday, but their plans were disrupted when a fatal accident occurred at the factory, suddenly leaving Jon an orphan.
Instead of staying at the country house, Jon was forced to move in with a distant uncle in a small flat in the city, far from the lavish life he was used to. His parents' death and the sudden change in scenery had left the boy shaken, but he tried looking at the bright side – now that he was in the city, he could go to school and make friends. But even though he frequently asked, his uncle never brought him, instead avoiding the boy as much as possible besides the daily meager meals they shared. This lead to the boy finding other ways of spending his time, his favorite being exploring the junkyard down the road. After seeing things people threw away such as machine parts and appliances, he began spending much of his time there, tinkering with and taking things apart.
When Jon was 12 years old, he found an injured carrier pigeon in the junkyard. Seeing that its right wing was broken, he took it upon himself to fix it up, haphazardly performing surgery and replacing the broken limb with gears and scrap metal. He then nursed the pigeon back to health, and was elated when he found that it could fly with the new wing. From that day on the bird stayed with him, becoming his only friend and companion in the city.
Two years after meeting the pigeon, Jon decided to run away, seeing as his uncle didn't care much for him anyway. His new home was the junkyard he had grown so attached to during the past four years; he survived by eating food scraps and dressing in thrown away garments. He didn't just focus on surviving, though – he also tinkered around some more with the old machinery in the junkyard and taught himself a few things about fixing them up, finding some old tools among the rubbish. As the years went on, he gained a solid understanding of how a lot of machines and appliances worked, repairing and building his own with what he could find in the junkyard.
Eventually word about Jon's handiness with repairing and building things began getting around by passing folk, and he was soon given opportunities to apply these skills, doing a decent job at them and getting paid decently as well. At 18 years old, he lives and works in the junkyard as a freelancer for fixing and building, saving up the money he earns to one day travel the world with his pigeon, and meet new friends along the way.
