Evaluation of project

What is my ideas？

In this module, I completed a total of two finished products. One is the use of collage to completed the superposition of the two images of the finished product, and the other is the use of Photoshop to complete the digital page. And my ideas is to create fantastic pictures with the theme of this module（displaced） by the  photographs which I took during my Christmas holiday in different countries.

According to the initial group discussion, I chose yellow as the representative color of my work, and then I combined it with different circular icon to make a series of pictures.

What is my inspiration？

My inspiration comes from the research of artists，In especial Eduardo Luigi Paolozzi，who is widely considered to be one of the pioneers of pop art. By coincidence, his works in the subway station，which has attracted me deeply in the first module. So I'd love to try more different material to show the charm of collage.

I got some pictures about the dome and the glass in the church，then print them and cut them down, and finally return to the main body of our group（A circular pattern），finally I made a spiral ring pattern. The use of two pieces of paper superposition method to create a mysterious tunnel, like endless feeling.

What I learned in this module？

This module provides some new opportunities, I also tried a lot of new things, such as screen printing, rubber engraving, book binding, etc. The most impressed me is the rubber engraved chapter, because the experience is very happy, also can learned the knowledge. At the same time, each person to play a creative, produced a different Chapter engraveds, and to share with each other, making a unique page, which enhances the exchange between classmates, which  also make people look forward to more similar activities.

Which areas need to be improved？

As a group, I think it is very important that the group members should share their views frequently, putting everyone’s ideas together and increasing the chances of group discussion. To be honest, I don't think we're doing enough this time, We're all a little bit quiet，I admit that at the beginning of our brainstorming and group pitch is no problem, but the latter exchanges and cooperation seems somewhat inadequate.

If the next encounter group module, I hope I can be more active and more generous with other members of communication, rather than blindly waiting.

One of my final works 

In order to unify the style of our group book, we finally chose the same paper to make each person's page. We use two pieces of paper overlay method, making the object displaced and assuming them to a new reality.

Specifically to explain this work, I use the technique of collage to cut the original dome picture，then I put it into a circular spiral pattern, which is to echo the mystery of the background image, but also in order to create a sense of long and endless，which can meet the endless tunnel.

At the same time, the positive and negative placement is to satisfy the reader's creativity.

My ideas 

All the pictures above were taken during the Christmas holiday by myself. I went to France, Prague and Zurich and took a lot of memorable picture. The reason I choose them above is because at the beginning we showed in the group presentation that we would use digital photos and softwares to make our books. At the same time, it is not difficult to find that I have gathered some round patterns which is to meet the requirements of our group.

Lino/Rubber Stamps with Stephen Fowler

It was really a pleasant experience. We are ready in advance of the course material, such as rubber, knife, seal etc. According to the degree of difficulty, step by step follow Stephen to learn how to use the rubber to carve out the pattern you want. I made the letter Y, strawberry cake, and one sneaker.

Finally we share our different stamps, and made the page content with the one and only, this is really interesting, which also enhance the communication between classmates.

Screen Printing

This is the first time I've tried screen printing, and I have to say it's all fresh and challenging. Justin taught us a lot of knowledge, and even some of the details of the very things, such as how to prepare the layout of printing, what are the matters needing attention when the operation of different devices respectively, which may be because of improper operation and the occurrence of injury events, how to clean the used layout to ensure a good reuse etc. Because of his humor makes the classroom atmosphere is very active, everyone enjoys the screen printing workshop.

The picture above is my preparation work according to the requirements before the workshop, but a print out of the effect is not very ideal, this is a little regrettable. After personally practice I found some small graphics or logo seems more suitable for screen printing. Look forward to my better screen printing works.

Group Pitch

During the group meeting，Each person chose a color and then combined with the circle to make pictures. I chose the yellow, the top three yellow round figure is my original works.The rest of the pictures are the works of the other members of our group.

Through the group pitch, we show people our brainstorming, the source of inspiration, the initial work of each person and the general division of labor.

My Module Notes

This is the third module on L4. Similarly, it is the first collaboration module. In this module, we would be required to work collaboratively in groups of 6 people to produce a book / zine. As can be seen from the module timetable, there will be some new attempts in this module, like screen printing workshop, material&structure workshop,Lino/stamps etc. As far as I am concerned, I feel that the theme of this module is very novel, and I am looking forward to having a different impact with the group.

ART4103: BOOKS & ZINES

In this module, we’re working in groups to produce a book or zine with three editions.  I am in Group 7, with Natalie, Holly, Shannon, and Hayden.

a book is:

‘a collection of sheets of paper or other substance fastened together to form a material whole’;

a zine is:

‘a small circulation self-published magazine of original or appropriated texts and images with often quirky content; simple production methods, ephemeral, informal, easy to produce.’

We’ll begin with Displaced: 

To dislodge; relocate; reposition; the action of moving something from its place or position; the removal of someone or something by someone or something else which takes their place…

When something is displaced it assumes a new and stranger reality.
