BUBBLING WITH JOY - art4d
Tetsuo Kondo, first time in Thailand Transsolar: We helped Tetsuo Kondo Architects with this Pavilion for a Bangkok developer. To protect the fully transparent building envelope from solar radiation, we use reflective balloons to create a comfortable atmosphere. We always wanted to create shading with ballons and finally found an application, happy Kondo found a way to integrate them.

“I wasn't sure I was an artist, so I thought maybe I just was throwing ideas out for people to consider.” This quote from Jenny Holzers’ interview stood out to me. She seems like an artist that likes to experiment, and also to work with other artists in collaboration to ease the doubts, and loneliness of working alone. She is also aware of her environment, and making art with what was happening, and what she sees around her in her environment. As she stated, “…I started making the stone benches because I was seeing rocks.’’
What was also an eye opener was the medium on which she choose to display her work, such as the documents projected on the library at NYU and the library at George Washington University, which is home to the National Security Archive. I thought that was clever and beautiful. These were documents that journalists had missed, or never bothered to expose at a time when the rhetoric was revenge, and nothing was dared questioned.
Her art resonates with a culture that likes to make statements; a culture that wears t-shirts with political statements on them. In the age of protest, her work and the medium and style which she expresses herself has never seemed more relevant.
