I’m in love with the COCO
Hibiscus Flower painting by Meghna Parmar
This is a gorgeous painting of a hibiscus flower by Meghan Parmar, the uses light and contrasting colours to create a spotlight, magical effect on the flower so it almost looks like the flower is glowing.
The composition includes one single detailed flower, painted in bright yet soft tones, with the stem of the flower and two buds also been detailed yet less so than the main hibiscus flower petals, The painting is quite simple, with the background just being a gradient of the contract colour yet it still looks very effective, with the flower looking like it is glowing, creating a fantasy yet A real atmosphere. The flower is done in soft and light yellow tones, that darken to oranges that show the details in the flower, the bright white and the yellow ‘ glow’ really makes it stand out like there is a spotlight on the flower. I think the artist is trying to put a spotlight on the flower metaphorically too, to show the world how beautiful these simple flowers can be. The background of this piece also supports the spotlight effect and around the flower the blue shades are lighter. The background has a sort of abstract style as you can clearly see the lines where the shades of colour change. This style looks like it is a spot of light beaming down onto the flower.
The whole vibe of this painting is very much like there is a spotlight on the flower, it is a very bold yet gorgeous atmosphere trying to show off the flower . I want to incorporate this bold yet gorgeous feel into my work, the gorgeous detail and glowing of the flower is an aspect I really want to incorporate into my project.
Spring bubble by Veronica Minozzi
This is a digital painting of a flower with droplets surrounding it, the composition is quite full with the flower being the main focus, all the important detail is kept in the bottom middle of this composition which draws the viewer in. This painting is quite realistic with a fantasy and somewhat unreal, yet capturing aspect, how the water doesn’t quite look realistic enough to be called a realistic painting. The painting looks very simple and angelic, the soft and light colour palette that has been used creates a sense or early morning spring, which the title of the painting gives evidence to, ‘spring bubble’.
The whole background of this piece is blurred which centres the viewer's eyes even more, making the see the slight details. The middle of the flower is extremely packed with detail, the bubbles all have some part of the flower in them, the image reflected in them therefore having an abstract section of the flower inside.
This gorgeous soft painting really gives a positive and soft vibe, in my project I want to have this detailed flower with an aspect of unreality, preferably with a blurry background to make the focal point stand out. I love the colour scheme used however also want to experiment with others so I shall look into other artists for this aspect. Overall, this piece is stunning and has lots of aspects that I would like to recreate and be inspired by.

Photography & Videography
.
.
.
Here are the outcomes of the previous photoshoot in terms of videography and audio. Initially, I started with editing the still photos to create a time-lapse of the subject being engulfed into the darkness by the ‘presence’ of a sleep paralysis. I achieved this effect by reducing the saturation to zero, turning the photo into lack and white as if the colours that represent life has been drained out by this terrifying ‘presence’ during an episode. Then, I made the photos darker by increasing the contrast at a time which gave the imagery of the shadows overwhelming the subject into the darkness.
However, I thought that the photo animation was too still and stiff. It creates a distance between the audience and the work which undermine my intention as I want the audience to be forcefully engulfed into the sleep paralysis. Thus, I decided to experiment with videography where I planned the scenes and incorporate movement into the whole video. I created the scenes as if the video is the ‘presence’ trying to engulf the subject suggesting the idea that this ‘presence’ is real when in reality it’s not. I also realised that by incorporating I could make a much more engaging work because the work is not just simply visualising the concept of sleep paralysis but also tells a story of it.
For the first video, I decided to make the saturation very high in order to create a very unrealistic and dream-like colour scheme but still make the exposure slightly low in order to create an eerie and dark atmosphere. For the second video, I decided to make the saturation low similar to the photo animation to continue the that life has been drained out by this terrifying ‘presence’ during the sleep paralysis. But still have a hint of colour, making the subject looks slightly lifeless and very pale.
