As a first post on this digital entity, I wanted to explain my choice of icon. This is “The Widow”, by Frederick Dielman, which was a popularly reproduced picture of a painting Dielman made. My point is that labels like this are a culturally violent way of delegitimizing certain people’s aesthetic sensibilities. Some ugly Jackson Pollock painting is labeled as a masterpiece, and the above image is a tacky piece of kitch art. I reject this approach, and embrace art and cultural irrespective of labels. I hope to express this mentality with the art I post here.
