Hi so I've re-read Lucid Dream at least a dozen times and its so good. But from one writer to another how do you deal with writers block? See I've been trying to write the next chapter to my own fic but I cant figure out how to start... So I figured theres no pain in asking someone else how they handle this type of situation.
I feel you ʕ´ᴥ`✿̥ʔ I was lucky, I had planned out and written a good chunk of Lucid Dream scenes before I actually got into seriously writing it. But every now and then I do get blocked and what has worked so far for me is to:
- let it rest and do something else I hadn’t had the time to do in a while, like playing games I like, reading books or catching up on series and shows. Letting your brain have a rest and enjoying yourself are important!- read previous chapters, because sometimes I end up correcting them or adding new stuff- work on the future chapters, because sometimes that’ll be the key to figuring the chapter in-between.- try to put myself in the scenery. For instance if I’m stuck at a chapter happening in woods, I’ll try to go in the woods and get inspired there. And if it’s not possible, just listening to the right ambiance and looking at pictures helps.
What I strongly recommend you do not do:
- overthinking on it. Sometimes the right idea comes when you are not actively trying to find it, kinda like sleep.- giving yourself a deadline. I personally find them extremely stressing, it is best to take the time rather than rush and end up writing something you won’t be happy about. In fact it might discourage you from continuing.- feeling guilty for the wait. Your readers will have to wait for chapters and that is totally okay. If people love your work, they will wait as long as it takes.
That is all I can think of atm, I hope it’ll help ʕノ◕ᴥ◕ʔノ*:・゚✧☆*゚
Some things that help lessen my art block
Doodle dumps
Reading books/fan fictions
Looking at my old art
Role-playing
Reading poetry
Watching shows/cartoons/animes
Others suggesting cool creatures to draw (that one more specifically helps me, it might not go for everyone-)
Why I made this post:
I see a ton of people struggling with artblock and not knowing what to do, I wanted to share what helps me with getting over it just cause it might help some other wonderful artists out there!
And although a few of these only specifically work for me, I still felt it'd be worth sharing!
