Art Block Execution #16: Out of the Box

Okay so, for this one, we want you to learn a new skill. Whatever it is you normally do- writing, sculpting, music, painting- drop it. (just for now of course.)

Pick a different kind of art- as far removed from your usual medium as interests you. It should require mostly skills that you don't have, but if you have a particular kind of art you've been MEANING to do and haven't gotten around to yet, do that!

Make something. It does not have to be perfect- in fact, it probably shouldn't be. You don't even need to finish it- just start a small project and learn something new!

Difficulty: 5/5 The difficulty depends almost entirely on what new medium you pick and how hard it is to wrap your brain around it.

How Does This Kill Art Block: This is another one of those "lets you think about something else for awhile" kinds of art block killers, and a big part of this ABE is remembering that the result does NOT have to be perfect- and perfectionism can ruin an otherwise productive artist. (plus, it's a good brain exercise.)

Second ABE in the line-up: Scaly Pet Deposit I actually drew this one before I did the first one, back in March when I went to Lebanon, TN to help open up a new Amazon.com facility they'd just opened up there. 

I spent a month out there and was missing my little pet lovebird, Bubba (who was staying with family), so I decided to try my hand at the project and made a lovie-dragon. It's a very small species of dragon, about the size of a Chihuahua (under 6 lbs. and no bigger than 6-10 in.). It retains the typical diet of lovebirds, eating anything from seeds to fruits, as well as nuts, veggies, and additional dietary supplements of lovies (though it also can eat the types of these foods that are poisonous to normal birds due to its dragon mix). As with the diet, it also retains the general temperament of lovebirds and is very mischievous, playful, loving, but can at times be a bit of a handful and moody. It is very LOUD if not given proper attention and needs adequate enrichment (such as lots of toys and playtime) so it doesn't get into everything due to boredom and neglect. Just like lovebirds it is very hardy, even more so being part dragon, but will hide its illnesses well as birds do out of instinct so be sure to have regular vet check-ups to ensure proper care and good health. So yeas, it would get along with Mr. Tiggles in apartment 2B without wanting to make him into a snack. However, it might be something Mr. Tiggles would want to avoid because of all that lovebird attitude in dragon form.

I made this new blog not only as a dump for my dumb doodles/musings, but also to do the ABEs (Art Execution Projects) that Tix-N-Roo host on their blog. I'm WAY behind, but I'm still going to try and do one for each and attempt to do them in order.

This is the first one Color Me Mine My favorite color is blue and since I didn't have any blue paper, I made some. I originally wanted the entire paper to be that first shade of blue on the bottom left, but because my markers are ancient and drying up since I haven't barely touched them in a good year, I had to improvise.

I can't even remember the last time I drew my partial fursona, Kater. Good to know he still has those ridiculously massive wing ears and that ultra-fluff tail. Not sure if this will be a final design for him or not since it has changed some from when I first drew him WAYYY back when, but my style is really sketchy and flowy (something I would have had MASS SHIT FIT OVER since my older style was so heavily strict on order and clean lines) and all over the damn place right now from being resurrected cold turkey so please bare with me.

Also Ade still can't do proportions, but I was more focused on actually just drawing than doing it to scale. Have to say it was very relieving, I haven't felt the creative need to ignore all my other biological needs/desires in order to art so badly in nearly two years since the phobia consumed me.
