Art for Action: “The Standing March”
Check out “The Standing March,” a public art piece drawing attention to climate change through an unique lens. For the past two nights from 8pm to 4am, a video of more than 500 people was projected onto France’s National Assembly building in Paris.
The installation is the collaboration of French artist JR and American filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (think, “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan”). They call the projected images of people from around the world “a representation of humanity”. It is their visual message and reminder to the 25,000 world leaders attending COP21 that “the whole world is watching” — all 7+ billion of us.
The piece will be traveling to different locations throughout Paris from today until December 7th. Find out where this silent march of sorts will be next!
Director Vanessa Black (@blkflm) captured this time lapse of the new #TheStandingMarch installation by @jr and @darrenaronofsky in Paris. The artists describe the piece as a reminder to world leaders "that the world is watching as they gather to negotiate a deal to keep global warming below 2°C." #COP21 #demandclimateaction #actonclimate #actinparis #cop21paris #art #streetart #Activism
