The library was too quiet to most people, but while it was rarely completely quiet here because of the nature of camp, Samson enjoyed it for exactly that. Outside these four walls the only other institution with this level of solemnity was the Temple and it likely wasn't a coincidence that Samson divided the bulk of his time between those two places.
A single AirPod was tucked into his right ear, the ambient sounds of nature looping gently in the background as his pencil tapped a subtle rhythm against his notebook. Half-composing and half-studying, the margins of Samson's notebook were filled with scrawls of different bars of music he'd rehearse later - notated between terms like tort liability and strict scrutiny.
Samson only meant to skim a chapter or two, something about constitutional rights - Skylar had mentioned a law exam earlier, and now he had questions about how demigods fit into mortal jurisdiction. Did a dryad get due process? Was divine intervention considered legal precedent? He chewed the end of his pencil, eyes flicking up briefly as someone walked by, and then again when they didn’t keep walking.
“You can sit,” he offered before thinking, then blinked and glanced up properly, pulling the AirPod free. “Sorry - bit distracted. Studying for… someone else’s exam, apparently.” He closed the law book halfway and pushed it a little to the side, gesturing to the empty chair. “Unless you need the table for something non-deranged, in which case I totally understand.” Rambling again, he feared.
