Dinner Date | Artinn
Finn was looking at the menu with a frown when Arthur spoke. He lifted his eyes from it and looked at the other. He smiled. "Yeah, I was really surprised when I realized that. I like it, anyway. It was a nice surprise." He said with a nod and a warm smile. Then he laughed too. "Oh well, at least it feels like home, right?"
Arthur shrugged his shoulders a bit. "Well, it doesn't feel like home to me, actually. Seeing that I was at LAGTY for like... two weeks tops," he chuckled and glanced down at the menu he had sitting in front of him. "I'm just glad I'm not attending your college, Finny D. Not that I wouldn't love to bump into you and Liza a lot, but I'd prefer to avoid it."
Finn licked his lips and nodded. "Oh right..." He shrugged. "Sorry, somehow I felt like we were in the same high school for longer." He chuckled then coughed lightly. He tilted his head slightly to the side. "Hm? What do you mean?" He asked, curiously, moving his eyes between Arthur and the menu.
Arthur chewed on his lower lip a bit. "Nah, it's fine. I'm sorta glad I made such an impact on you! It runs in the Berry blood, I swear," he winked and thumbed past the first page of the menu. "I mean like, I'd hate to step on someone's toes if I went to your college. And have some massive bomb blow up. Kinda like that Smythe boy and Sam," his nose crinkled a bit. "It was like two cats clawing eachother's eyes out on the dashboard."
Finn blushed a little at Arthur's words and chuckled. "You definitely did." He replied simply, looking at him. He nodded slowly, frowning as he listened. "Oh... Yeah, I think I understand what you mean." He shrugged. "I don't think something like that might happen, but still..." He looked down at the menu once again and snorted. "God, how can I choose something? Everything looks delicious!"
Arthur laughed at the tension reliever. "I thought you'd like this place~" he hummed slightly. "It was either here or the cheese cake factory, but who knows? Maybe we could swing by there and get us some cheesecake to go," he suggested and skimmed his finger along the items. "I might just go with something simple like spaghetti and meatballs," Arthur mentioned, shutting the menu.
Finn puffed out his cheeks, constantly turning pages as if he was searching for the perfect choice for his food. He looked up at Arthur with big eyes at his suggestion. "Yes, please?" He asked with a pout. When Arthur mentioned spaghetti and meatballs, he laughed. "Oh, we could do like in Lady and the Tramp!" He said with a grin and another chuckle. "Hmm, I' think I'll take a chicken parmigiana!" He said with a convinced nod, finally.
Arthur clicked his tongue a grinned in response. "Of course we can, Finny D. My treat," he offered happily. Arthur thought about the exclamation for a moment before glancing over at Finn. "I won't nudge a meatball towards you, but we can do the spaghetti string thing," he nudged his menu to the edge of the table. "Oh that's a good choice, I'll try not to steal any of it from you."
Finn smiled widely. "Oh yeah!" He said happily, before licking his lips at the thought of cheesecake. He laughed. "Damn, that was the best part..." He commented jokingly before closing his menu and putting it near the edge of the table too, throwing a look around the place briefly. "Ah, but you can, as long as you let me steal from you." He said, crossing his arms and nodding.
Arthur appreciated Finn's enthusiasm towards the plans for the rest of their date. "You could do it though," Arthur snorted. "Because I don't think I want spaghetti sauce on my nose," he teased in return and went to grab his glass of water. Arthur thought about the proposition for a beat before tilting his head to the side. "Fair enough."
Finn shrugged. "I could, yeah." He grinned. "Well, if you did, I could clean it up for you." He said nonchalantly, looking straight at him. Then he laughed. "Was that too straightforward?" He asked with a giggle, shaking his head and blushing. He coughed. "Anyway! We should give our orders..." He said, looking around in search of a waiter. Soon a waiter arrived and he placed his order, then looked at Arthur with a smile.
Arthur smirked a little and took a small drink from his glass. "Nah, Finny D. Need I remind you, we were practically making out during one our first meetings-- except with necks..." Arthur cleared his throat and trailed his thumb up and down the condensation on his glass. Arthur nodded and waited for Finn to order before putting in his as well as a quick thanks. "So, tell me about your family, you have a twin too, right?"
Finn laughed. "Haha, that's true! But you know, this is still a 'first date', so..." He shrugged and chuckled. He stared at Arthur as he too placed his order, grabbing his glass and sipping some water from it. At Arthur's question he looked puzzled for a moment. "Oh... Right, you arrived after Toph went away!" He said, looking down for a moment. "Yeah, his name is Christopher, and we are fraternal. For a short while we also..." He started, but then he stopped and cleared his throat. "Uhh, he attended LAGTY too, but then decided to go back to Canada. And he's still there." He nodded. "Uhmm, what else can I say... I have an awesome mom, and my father died when Toph and I were very young." He frowned a little, but then he smiled again. "What about your family?"
Arthur listened contently. "Oh, yeah! I remember Chris, actually. He was hitting on me for a little and I was kinda like 'shit you're a minor, I can't do this,' and what not," Arthur said awkwardly, rubbing his neck knowing that he started dating a minor shortly after that. "That sucks though, I could hardly live without my sisters around me, but I hope he's enjoying Canada," Arthur admitted. He frowned a little more at the news that Finn's father had died when he was young. "Oh that sucks.." he mumbled and took a sip from his drink. "Uhm, well I'm the brother of Rach and Liza, as you should know. I never really got to meet my mom, but she's wandering around somewhere on the planet. I have two loving dates and they kind of make up for the fact that we didn't have a mom around the house," Arthur laughed.
Finn laughed. "Oh, so you do know him!" He said with a grin. He shrugged. "I don't think he cared that he was still a minor! After all, you're too attractive to care about that." He shrugged again, winking at him. "Well, I'm okay, I never really met him, so it's not like I miss him..." He said, talking about his father. "And Toph... Well, I see him during holidays and stuff!" He nodded as Arthur started talking. "Oh, right, I almost forgot that you have two dads! How's it like?" He asked, wondering if he would ever get married with a man and have children.
Arthur grinned. "Well that's good then, it all works out," he laughed a bit and sat his glass back down on to the table. "My two dads? Oh they're so great, it's never boring in the house with them around, actually. They're like loaded with cash so we're all pretty spoiled. They love us all though. So we're really fortunate with them around."
Finn nodded smiling. He laughed when he said they were spoiled. "Well, you don't really sound like a spoiled child, actually." He commented truthfully. He took another sip from his glass, then he looked at Arthur. "Can I ask you something? I've heard you say more than once that you're not cut out for relationships, or something like that... What do you exactly mean by that?" He asked, curiously.
Arthur blinked at the question and furrowed his brows. "Well, I meant by that was like.. I'm not boyfriend material, I guess. I can try, but normally my relationships were just...friends with benefits type of stuff. We hang out, joke around, have sex, and life goes on. I guess I've never actually been in a serious relationship. It's either the person gets bored of me and finds someone better, or I end up leaving because I'm trying to make a living with Broadway," Arthur explained, shrugging his shoulders.
Finn chewed softly on his bottom lip as he listened to what Arthur was saying. Well, that certainly wasn't encouraging. But he smiled and nodded, chuckling a little. "I see, I see..." He paused, looking at him. "And how do you think things are gonna be this time?" He asked smiling warmly.
Arthur caught the small shift in emotion between them and he slowly reached over to grab Finn's hand. He pressed their palms flat against eachother and slowly laced their fingers one at a time. "I'm not going anywhere any time soon and I really like you Finn, so if you can be patient with me.. well, then I think this will work out just fine."
Finn looked over curiously at him as he moved his hand. He felt his face redden when Arthur grabbed his hand and then laced their fingers, while his smile became happier and sweeter. "Okay then..." He said softly, looking down sheepishly. "I really like you too, so... I'm sure it'll be alright!"
Arthur smiled in comfort, giving Finn's hand a small squeeze. "So we'll both be putting in our penny's worth," he chuckled softly.
Finn nodded, squeezing back. "Yeah..." He chuckled first. Then he gradually started laughing. "Sorry! I just... Oh god..." He laughed a little bit more. "I'm such a kid... It's just that... you said 'penny's worth' and it sounds sort of like 'penis worth' and..." He took a deep breath, closing his eyes and shook his head. "Okay. I'm fine now. Sorry, I'm an idiot." He facepalmed.
Arthur stared at Finn with a straight face for a long moment before he laughed as well. "You're so weird, Finny D, but I like it," he grinned. The waiter finally came and he gave a sigh of relief. "Just on time, I was starving."
Finn shook his head, chuckling. "Good, because I'm sure most guys would have just looked at me weirdly and the date would have become a complete disaster just for that!" He said with a sigh. He felt relieved when the food arrived. "Great!" He licked his lips as he grabbed his knife and fork and started eating with a huge smile.
Arthur bit his lip a little, stabbing the pasta with a fork. "Trust me, that's me when a date's at a karaoke bar and I've had one too many alcoholic drinks. Because I go from sounding like an angel to something else..." he mumbled, stuffing a bit of pasta in his mouth.
Finn had already some chicken in his mouth when Arthur was talking, and he was throwing him glances as he cut more pieces of meat. He giggled at Arthur's words. "Really? I'd like to hear one day." He said with a grin. "Oh, you're saying that you usually sound like an angel when you're singing? Now that I think about it, I never really heard you sing..." He commented with a little frown, taking another piece of chicken.
Arthur shrugged his shoulders. "No one has really heard me sing unless you've gone to the plays I'm casted in at my school. Liza has heard more than enough from me, but I really just do Broadway stuff," he explained as he made a reach for his glass of water. "I used to do pop-rock when I was growing up, but that was when Rachel and I weren't attached by the hip."
Finn nodded. "Well, I like Broadway stuff. I'd love to hear you sing and come see you in plays at your school!" He said, sincerely interested. "Well, I like pretty much every kind of music, so..." He shrugged as he took another piece of meat. "Hmm, this is really good!" He commented, after he had swallowed. "How's yours?" He asked with a grin, reaching out with his fork to get some spaghetti from Arthur's plate.
Arthur grinned at this information. "Well, I'll be sure to snag you a ticket with Liza's next time I'm in a performance," he confirmed with a cheeky smile. "Do you sing, Finny D?" Arthur asked as he watched the other eat. He wiped his mouth a bit and laughed softly. "Mine's excellent," Arthur nudged his plate forward for Finn to get proper access to his food.
Finn smiled up at him. "Cool, thanks!" He said. "Actually yeah, I do. Well, singing is also a part of my classes, but more focused on acting." He shrugged. "I love singing, though. And playing the drums." He nodded, before tasting Arthur's food. "Hmm, this is awesome too... Here, have some of mine!" He said, moving his plate a little towards the other.
Arthur tilted his head and nodded. "Well, you look like you could be the type to act. If you ever need some pointers, just ask," he laughed a little. "You should sing in return for my singing then. It's a fair exchange, isn't it?" he crossed one leg over the other and watched Finn's reaction to the taste of spaghetti. Arthur laughed a little and extended his fork to take a bite of Finn's. "Oh wow, yours is good too."
Finn "I will!" He said with a happy tone of voice. "Oh of course I will if you want me to! We could duet sometimes too." He chuckled and then nodded, continuing to eat his own food. He soon was finished, pretty quickly, and he put down his knife and fork and just stared at Arthur with a smile as he waited for him to finish too. "I'm so glad."
Arthur made a look of thought at the suggestion. "I don't see why not, Finny D, it all depends on if our voices work well enough together," he grinned, getting back to his meal. Finn was the first to finish, surprisingly, but Arthur cleaned his plate shortly after with a sigh of delight. He wiped his mouth and set his napkin down.
Finn nodded. "That's true." He said, then he clapped his hands when Arthur finished eating. "Well, is it cheesecake time yet?" He asked jokingly, but actually craving cheesecake since Arthur had first mentioned it.
Arthur took a sip of his drink and grinned a little at Finn. "Once we get our check, I'll pay and we can get going," he winked, making a grab for his wallet
Finn had already moved a hand near his pocket to go and grab his wallet, but it stopped when Arthur talked. "Oh... Are you paying?" He asked, blushing.
Arthur nodded. "Yeah, I asked you out, Finn. Maybe next time you can pay and make me feel like royalty," he chuckled and the waiter soon came in with the check a small talk. Arthur went and paid in cash and made sure to leave a tip as well. "Let's go?"
Finn smiled. "Right. I'll make sure I will!" He said with a grin, looking as Arthur paid. For some reason, he was fascinated by almost everything Arthur did. By the way he did things. He shook himself up from his staring when Arthur talked to him, and he nodded. "I like you more than I thought." He randomly said as they walked towards the exit.
Arthur tucked his wallet into his pocket and trailed after Finn with an easy smile. "That was pretty random, Finny D," Arthur chuckled, reaching over to grab the taller's hand. "The Cheesecake factory is a short walk, can you manage that?" Arthur tilted his head, lacing their fingers together.
Finn blushed and giggled. "I know, sorry." He said, contently sighing as they held hands. "Yeah, of course. I don't think I've ever been there though, so you lead me." He grinned.
Arthur nodded and began to steered Finn into the right direction of the dessert shop. "The cheesecake is so rich, I swear, I died when I ate there for the first time," he laughed softly, running his thumb along Finn's hand.
Finn licked his lips. "Hmm, I can't wait! I'm afraid I'll die too!" He said with a chuckle, squeezing Arthur's hand a little, enjoying the contact and his thumb caressing his hand. "What kinds of cheesecakes do they have?"
Arthur laughed and continued to guide Finn. "Oh they have a lot, I can't even name them. I like the tuxedo cheesecake the most, but they have strawberry, mango, regular, chocolate, double fudge, reeses, I could go on," he grinned and they soon approached the store.
Finn shook his head. "Okay, stop, I'm gonna start drooling!" He said with a laugh. When they entered the store, Finn's eyes seemed to light up. "... Oh yeah, can I, like, move here?" He asked jokingly with a laugh. He sped up a little to go and look all kinds of cheesecakes, dragging Arthur along with him. "Oh god, this is heaven"
Arthur laughed and kept their hands tight against eachother. "I thought you'd like this place, I come here once in a blue moon," he grins. "It's a really nice treat, trust me," he glanced around for his favorite cheesecake. "I'm going to go order mine to-go, okay?" Arthur loosened his grasp on Finn's hand.
Finn was still trying to decide which cheesecake he should choose when Arthur let go of his hand. "Oh... Sure, I'll just choose mine and..." He smiled, looking at him and then focusing back on the cheesecake. He settled on the chocolate one and nodded, then moving to follow Arthur and adding his order with a big smile, immediately grabbing Arthur's hand again.
(They ordered and Finn was about to grab his wallet, but he stopped and smiled.)
Arthur was just about to smack Finn's hand when he made a reach for his wallet, but it appeared that Finn caught it and Arthur pulled out his wallet instead and paid for the both of them. The lady cut the individual pieces as well as a little cup of whip cream and packed them individually. Arthur took Finn's and handed it to him then grabbed his own.
Finn "Thanks." He said smiling softly as he took his slice. "So, where could we eat this?" He asked as they walked out of the dessert shop, still holding hands.
Arthur trailed after Finn and tilted his head. "We could sit in the trunk of my car and eat it?" Arthur laughed, grinning up at him.
Finn laughed. "Sounds good, but it has to be parked in some romantic place, like a cliff, with a view of the city and the sunset!" He laughed again, looking at Arthur with an amused look.
Arthur grinned and shrugged his shoulder. "The best I can do right now is to eat under the stars at the park," he responded with a small smug grin.
Finn sighed, shaking his head, pretending to be disappointed. "I guess I'll have to content myself with that." He said sadly, then laughing again and smiling. "Actually, it would be amazing. Is there a park near here?" He asked
Arthur nodded. "It's like in the opposite direction of which we came from the restaurant. So we're going to have to pass by it," Arthur laughed a bit, tugging him towards the general direction of the park.
Finn chuckled. "It's okay, I don't mind walking with you." He said, then throwing a glance at his packed cheesecake. "But you'll have to keep me entertained, or else my hunger for cheesecake might make me transform in some kind of monster!" He laughed.
Arthur bursted out laughing and he nudged Finn lightly. "Well I'd race ya, but we might kill our cheesecakes if we did," he grinned, nuzzling the side of Finn's shoulder. "And you must get bored easily!"
Finn giggled. "I don't want our cheesecakes to die." He said, and then sighed contently with a grin. "Well, I do, but I don't think I'll get bored as long as you keep being adorable."
Arthur perked up an easy grin and nodded in agreement. "They won't commit cheesecake suicide either, promise," he laughed and tipped his head to the side. "Aw, well then you probably won't ever be bored unless I'm stressed."
Finn squeezed his hand and chuckled. "Well, I hope I don't get you stressed!" He said jokingly, but also with a little bit of concern in his voice. "It's been so long since I've last been in a park at night..." He commented with a smile.
Arthur dragged Finn towards the swing sets. "No no, not by you, but when I'm a lead in a musical at my college. I get a little... snarky," he admitted with a small shrug. "It's a stressful job and becomes unbearable when I can't stand who I'm working with."
Finn lit up when he saw they were moving towards the swing sets. He strove not to just run towards a swing and sit on it immediately. "Oh I see. Well, that's understandable. I mean, being the lead is a big responsibility, and it's not always easy to connect with the other people." He shrugged. "It's okay."
Arthur finally let go of Finn's hand to park himself into a swing set. He sat the cheesecake container on his lap. "Well, it's rare, but some people are unprofessional and it irks me. Out of the showbiz, I can get along with practically anyone."
Finn placed himself on the swing set next to Arthur's, grinning like an idiot. Then he looked at Arthur and nodded. "I understand. I can relate, it has happened to me too." He shrugged. "Even though I've never had a leading role yet." He added with a chuckle, as he opened the container and looked down at his slice of cheesecake, licking his lips. "Bon apetit~" He said, grabbing it and giving it a bite.
Arthur was actually glad that Finn understood his problem. Even if he wasn't a main role, it was better coming from someone with at least some experience. "You'll get one soon~" he chimed in encouragement and watched Finn as he cracked open his cheesecake container. Arthur watched with anticipation to see how Finn thought of the cake. "Well?"
Finn tasted the first bite and stayed silent for a while. Then he took another bite and kept staying silent. Then another one. After he swallowed the third bite, he let out a loud sigh, looking at Arthur. "It's... amazing..." He said, seemingly almost touched by how much he was liking that cheesecake. "It could easily be the best cheesecake I've ever had...!"
Arthur was nearly on the edge of his swing before Finn finally responded. "Ugh! You totally did that on purpose," he pouted playfully and opened his own cheesecake and fork to take a bite with a pleasant hum. "God, I wish I had milk."
Finn laughed at Arthur. "I did not~" He mocked him playfully grinning. He sighed at Arthur's words. "I'm not gonna make that joke." He said with a giggle, shaking his head, before taking another bite of his cheesecake.
Arthur puffed his cheeks a little at Finn in another pout. "Not that kind of milk, Finny D!" Arthur gently scooted his swing over to Finn's and nudged into him before swinging back into his original position. "Hmph," Arthur breathed, stuffing his mouth.
Finn laughed. "Hey! I didn't say anything about it!" He protested, being careful not to drop his cheesecake, and taking more bites when he was sure the food was safe again. He looked up at the sky. "The stars are nice tonight."
Arthur laughed as well. "You implied it and I caught it," he insisted with a smirk. The older of the two took another bite and hummed. "They are nice, actually. Can you name constellations? I only know the big and little dipper."
Finn grinned but didn't comment further. He frowned at Arthur's question, tilting his head a little to the side, still looking up. "Uhmmm... I took astronomy classes once, but I don't remember much... Oh, look, there's Orion's Belt! And the whole Orion." He said with a smile, pointing at the stars. "And that's actually pretty much all that I can remember
Finn " He said with a shrug and a giggle."
Arthur smiled a little. "Ah, welp, you tried, Finny D," Arthur murmured, pushing a bit more cheesecake into his mouth. "Oh lord, I don't think I can finish this."
Finn goggled his eye at Arthur. "No no no, Arthur, you can't waste cheesecake! That's the worst thing you could ever do in your life!" He said, apparently very serious.
Arthur groaned, forcing more of the cake into his mouth. "If I throw up everywhere, I hope you feel guilty," he mumbled, swallowing.
Finn finished his cheesecake too, and then laughed at Arthur. "Aw, come on, it was just a last tiny piece!" He said, standing up again and stretching his arms. "Hey, can we lie down on the grass?" He asked, approaching Arthur and standing in front of him, still sitting on the swing set.
Arthur went to throw away the container and almost immediately clung to Finn. "Laying in the grass sounds great. I feel like I might pass out."
Finn chuckled. "Do you think it's safe to spend the night sleeping in a park?" He asked, as he moved with Arthur to a more open space, where he lay down on the grass with a sigh.
Arthur followed after Finn, curling up beside him. "Probably not. It's LA, we could get mugged," Arthur grinned, resting his head on Finn's chest.
Finn nodded, wrapping his arms around Arthur. "True, true..." He smiled and kissed Arthur's head. "Well... We'll have to stand up again and walk to the car and go home, in a short while, then... or we could just hope we don't get mugged!" He laughed.
Arthur groaned and flopped over Finn. "All right, I think we can make it to the car. You can stay in my dorm if you wanna?"
Finn lit up. "Sure! If you want me to!" He said happily. "I'd love to!"
Arthur grinned a little and nodded. "All right, let's get going," He pushed himself up off of the grass and held out his hands to Finn.
Finn stood up too with a big smile and grabbed Arthur's hand. They walked together out of the park and towards the car. "I really enjoyed myself." He said, squeezing Arthur's hand and looking at him sweetly.
Arthur looked up at Finn and nodded in response. "Pretty much the best first date ever," Arthur muttered, leaning up to peck him on the lips.
Finn kissed back briefly, grinning. "Yeah, definitely!" They soon arrived to the car and got inside. "You sure it's okay? Would you get scolded if they knew you let people sleepover or something?"
Arthur shook his head, getting into the driver's seat. "Nah, it's full of drama kids, Finn. We practically do everything against the rules," he chuckled.
Finn laughed. "Good to know! I like your bed, I may want to use it more often!" He said with a grin and a chuckle.
