Is Google Making Us Stupid?-Reflection
I have read this article before for another class, but even still, while I was reading about how it was hard for the author to be invested or focused enough to read books or even just a few pages anymore, I was also having trouble with this. I’ve already read the article and I was having trouble re-reading it. I don’t necessarily think Google is making us stupid. I used to be an avid reader and now after years of heavy internet use, I find it very difficult to put much energy into reading anything longer than even a page. Rather than think of excessive internet use and Google use as making us stupid, I think of the change in the way my brain wants to remember information or focus on tasks like reading as changing. Because of Google and the internet, I know I personally have put less emphasis on memorizing certain types of information because I can just look them up, and similarly to reading, I don’t want to devote much brain space or memory allocation to reading when I can quickly skim to find something I need to know. Excessive internet use and Google use has changed our brains to allocating more space and memory to doing and taking actions, multitasking, and googling rather than memorizing, reading, and other slower functions of memory.
