Hi. I hope you don't mind my asking a question. I am re-watching season 3, and I'm on 'Tallahassee' right now. Emma is supposed to be 18 when she gets pregnant with Henry, right? But, how old is Neal supposed to be? Do we have any idea? Because I'm just watching them and thinking wow he looks really old. And that just might be the actor (just like they're using JMo), but it made me curious if he's supposed to be much older. Thanks!

I think that’s been a subject of some debate for a while, actually. I think Emma was 18 when she gave birth, so she was either 17 or 18 when she got pregnant. According to his wanted poster, Neal was born in ‘77 so he would have been 24 when he met Emma.

Both Neal and Emma look older than their supposed ages in the flashbacks. The actress who plays young!Emma now, Abby Ross, is actually about the right age now, so if you want to picture Emma at age 18 then she’d be more realistic in terms of looks. And Neal would look a lot younger as well. I’d look at Dylan O’Brien for a more realistic idea of what he’d have looked like, I think Dylan is about the right age now.

That’s as far as I know. I’m gonna publish this so that others can weigh in if there’s something I missed or if I’m wrong, which is entirely possible!

I feel this way a lot too and mostly try to ignore it. With varying degrees of success.

That honestly seems like the best thing I can do at this point -- sort of anticipate I’ll likely feel this way, acknowledge it when it happens, and try to move on.

If you’re doing between 2k and 4k in a day, you’re doing reaaalllyyy well. I know I consider 2k a really good day, personally. Obviously it’s different for everyone, but I definitely don’t think you shouldn’t feel guilty for not writing more!

I appreciate that!  Basically my writing process goes through cycles and changes up semi-frequently (the trend I mentioned is for the last week and a half). I think if I wrote, say, 1k a day fairly consistently, it would feel easier to feel sanguine about that output.  But as it is, I always feel like there could be a less-productive period or a dry spell coming up, so I get that whole, “why am I not striking more while the damn iron is hot?” impulse.  And then, if I’m writing 3k in one day, why not 4k, huh?  Etc., etc.

I don’t know.  It’s also probably due to the fact that I function mostly on guilt and thoughts about making coffee and baking too much.

“What are you doing out here?” Zach asks, finding Chris standing on the back porch, gazing at the night sky.

“It’s about to rain. Can you smell it?”Chris inhales deeply. “Like a prelude to nature’s symphony.”

Zach hums, winding his arms around Chris’waist from behind, and looks skywards. Rain would certainly be welcome afterthe weeks of suffocating heat they’ve had to endure. Chris leans back againsthim, covering his arms as a breeze picks up.

They only have to wait a few minutes beforethe first fat drop lands on Zach’s cheek. He blinks in surprise, shaking itaway, but there’s already another, and another. The tempo slowly increases,tapping out a staccato rhythm everywhere it touches, from the loud taps on thedecking to the gentle plunks on the surface of the shimmering pool. Chris turnsin Zach’s arms and grins brightly as he tilts his head back and closes his eyes,offering his face as a canvas.

Zach watches as the rain paints tears on Chris’cheeks and lashes, steadily changing his hair to a deeper gold. When Chrisopens his eyes and catches Zach staring, his grin widens and he curls a handaround Zach’s neck to bring their lips together.

“Weshould go inside,” Zach says when they part, licking a raindrop from Chris’bottom lip. Now a relentless downpour, the rain is rapidly soaking through their thin layers of clothing.

“Mmm.” Chris remains where he is, hisexpression completely serene despite the deluge. “Or we could stay here a bitlonger.”

“Chris…“

Chris kisses any further words away,the warmth of his mouth counteracting the cool water. And just like the leavesand branches bowing to the storm, Zach yields.
