Gibraltar Point -photo by Rosaleigh Harvey-Otway The first blog post I made during the two week Luminous Bodies Residency said “During this residency I hope to complete two fully realized projects”. Since this residency I’ve taken part in discussions about process vs product, the art as evidence and the viewer as witness. Each morning on Toronto Island started with a mug of coffee in my studio with the doors to the raspberry garden propped open. After coffee I would go on a short bike ride around the island or swim with a friend before it got too hot out. Afterwards, I would have breakfast with the other artists and then head to my studio to do work for the day. Now I realize that ritual of starting my day was a major part of the process.
Luminous Bodies art exhibition
After two weeks of making art, attending artist talks and visiting galleries the Luminous Bodies residency has ended. We converted the Artscape building into a sprawling art exhibit to showcase our work. After, we drank wine and ate Nutella by a campfire on the beach.
