new painting in 5”x7” real life series. i’m still figuring out the texture of the wood and the foam on the water.
final of this one !
new piece i started today. i am inspired by a dance i saw this winter by a palestinian choreographer. she created this piece inspired by her relationship to the land and performed it in gaza in september 2023, before this phase of the genocide began. i was honored to be part of a small community showing, and hope this painting grows to show how that dance piece affected me and to honor those who have been martyred.
I plan to incorporate native plants, such as strawberries and olive trees into the landscape as well as palestinian patterns in the fabric of the woman’s dress and the cloth she is clinging to. i hope to find a balance between showing the trauma and destruction of the current events and the beauty and perseverence the palestinian people have within them.
“Daybed” 2022, oil on canvas
