Merry Christmas Night, everyone! As I mentioned last week, Mudskipper is taking today off, so please enjoy this little card instead of a page (I really wanted to give Jull, Zo, Macco and Kalli some love to make up for their lack of presence in chapter 5).
I’m visiting my mum and brother for Christmas and will be visiting my extended family over the next couple of days - since I’ve got my Surface Pro and there’ll be a lot of sitting in the back seat of a car involved, I might be able to finish chapter 5, page 21, but I can’t say exactly when. So I’ll just say to look out for the next update some time this week - in any case, I’ll definitely be taking New Year’s Day off. Have a wonderful holiday season and New Year - see you all in 2018!
As previously stated, chapter 5 page 37 got delayed twice - first by the final push on my job (!!!), then by Eurovision weekend, but it’ll be ready in a few hours. While you wait, here’s a few concept sketches of Zo’s current disguise!
To make up for the lack of an update this week, here’s a young Victorian lady and the mysterious dog-formed being who gave her a steam powered watch that can disguise her and her equally mysterious friends with coloured smoke
Sorry I’ve kind of dropped the ball on posting doodles and WIPs between updates; I’m trying to make my third and final year of university really count. That’s no excuse for not at least trying to strike a balance, though!
The 10th of August marks Mudskipper’s second anniversary!!
I’m in the process of moving at the moment, so I didn’t really have time to do a big, fancy thing like last year... so I told myself I’d just do a quick, rough painting conveying my feelings about the occasion... one not-particularly-quick painting later, it’s past midnight on the 10th where I am. Oops.
This is my last summer as a student, before I have to actively look for work in the animation industry (or not!). It’s an uncertain time for my future, but the one thing I do know is that I want Mudskipper to be part of that future, and I’m thankful to anyone reading this whether they’ve been here for two years or have just joined the crew on their adventures. So, here they are heading into that uncertain but bright future!
By the way, it’s wallpaper sized (at least it should be for most monitors), so save the full size version and enjoy!
A couple of “it was a bit of a struggle but I finally got the pen pressure on my new table to work, yay”-type sketches!
I was watching the Educating series and got thinking about the ‘skippers’ school lives!
Text transcribed for mobile or screenreader users (or just people allergic to obnoxious colours) under the cut:
Remember the print edition of chapters 1 and 2? I had good timing making it, because my university campus are going to have an exhibition of artist’s books! To make it fit the bill a bit more and make use of the blank space on the inside front cover and back cover, I drew two original illustrations bookending this chunk of the story. I didn’t realise how much I missed analog inking...
