“Ode to Frida” watercolors, colored pencils, ink, gold - From 2018 for the group show last summer LONG LIVE FRIDA at the @satchtheartist art space. She (Frida) was happily adopted by a local Librarian which told me of her travels to see some of Frida’s artwork in person. I was honored to be apart of a group of women that shared the same passions and admiration for Frida. #fridakahlo was a very progressive and liberated woman way ahead of her time. She was overshadowed by her husbands success in a male dominated world. She was sexually empowered (open marriage/ bisexual/ cross dresser) and politically unconventional (very Liberal and Communist Party) She was cursed with a brutal physical disability from a traumatic accident that she would never recover from but always persevered. Despite her fragile body and missing leg she wore dramatic and very bohemian designs with no shame. She told her story so raw and genuinely through her paintings and with no fear of being vulnerable. She was a force and major part of the art movement: Art Surrealism (along side with Salvador Dali) In which the famous psychologist Freud announced his dream analysis in interpreting dreams which inspired the surrealist movement and these artist painted their own dreamworlds. Subconscious- telling their stories. Frida is iconic.
