I think i’m leaning towards writing another fanfic of artsycrapfromsai‘s Beauty and the Beast AU for Gravity Falls. I just don’t know which scene I should write about. I wanted to do the final fight scene originally, but now I wonder if maybe I should just write a whole story. Like, cover the movie from beginning to end. I know some people are doing that already, but Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite movies ever and I practically know it backwards and forwards and just being able to tell a Gravity Falls version of the story would just be, like, so cool. But, I don’t know. I’m so indecisive. Maybe you guys can help me out, tell me what you want to see?
((Inspired by @artsycrapfromsai‘s Beauty and the Beast AU for Gravity Falls. I’ve fallen head over heels for this AU and I think it’s high time I contributed something as well. Enjoy!))
“Dipper, are you sure about this? You know we’re not supposed to be up here.”
“Mabel, I’m telling you, something magical is going on in this castle. We have to get to the bottom of it.”
Mabel sighed, but after seeing Dipper march up the stairs into the West Wing, she ran to catch up with him. She did have to admit, Soos and Wendy, the talking screwdriver and ax they had run into earlier, seemed awfully tight-lipped about what was up here. She was as curious as Dipper, but Stan was so scary when he was mad. If he caught them up here, they were going to get in trouble for sure.
She and Dipper reached the top of the stairs and headed to the left. For a split second, they stopped, their eyes going wide. It looked like someone had gotten a sledge-hammer and wrecked everything in sight. Statues were shattered into pieces. Paintings on the walls were split in half. A mirror was shattered. Dipper spoke first.
“Come on, let’s go.”
He started walking forward again. Mabel stared for a moment longer before hurrying after him. She grabbed his hand in an effort to quell the growing nervousness inside her. Truthfully, Dipper was feeling it too, but he didn’t mention it. He only squeezed Mabel’s hand as they came to a set of double doors.
“This is it,” Dipper said. “You ready?”
Mabel nodded. She went and grabbed one door handle while Dipper put his hands around the other.
“On three,” he said. “One...two...three!”
He and Mabel tugged on the doors with all their might. They swung open, revealing the room inside. Their eyes went even wider than before.
“Whoa...” the twins breathed in unison.
The room was even worse than the hallway. It seemed like a tornado with claws had blown through the place. As Dipper and Mabel stepped inside, they could see bits and pieces of shredded fabric and a bed that had been torn apart. A bookcase was toppled over onto the floor.
“Jeez. And I thought your room was messy back home,” Mabel muttered.
“Now’s not the time for humor, Mabel,” Dipper muttered in return. “Let’s look for clues.”
“But what are we looking for, specifically?” Mabel asked. With no idea on what they wanted to find, it felt like they were kind of groping in the dark, literally. The room was hardly lit at all.
“I don’t know,” Dipper said as he started going through a pile of shredded books. “Just...anything that jumps out at you.”
Mabel frowned. That wasn’t much to go on. But, she started looking around anyway. She peered around the bed, what was left of it at least, until something caught her eye.
It was a portrait, the only one that hung up on the wall. It was nearly shredded, but Mabel thought she could make out two kids. One of the boys had glasses on his face and...
“Wait, what?” Mabel took a step closer, trying to get a better look. The boy with the glasses had one of his hands showing in the picture. Did he have...six fingers?
At that moment, a yellow glow shone from the corner of her eye. Mabel spun around.
“Dipper, look!”
Dipper looked up at the sound of his sister’s voice. Almost immediately, he saw the yellow glow she was pointing at. They looked at each other, both wondering the same thing. What was causing it? With their curiosity driving them forward, they stepped further into the room. It didn’t take them long to find the source of the glow.
A tiny table stood near a set of glass doors that led to a balcony. Unlike everything else in the room, it seemed to be in pretty good condition. A glass case lay on top of it. As Mabel and Dipper drew closer, they could see what was causing the glow. A book lay under the glass case. A golden six-fingered hand was on the cover.
“What in the world...” Dipper had never seen anything like this before. What kind of book glowed like this?
Mabel reached over and delicately removed the glass case. She looked over at her brother.
“Looks like we found a pretty major clue,” she said.
“You got that right,” Dipper replied. “And now, we see what’s inside it.”
There was no hesitation as Dipper opened the glowing book to the first page. His curiosity was too great, and Mabel was feeling the same. But as they looked at the first page, they gave each other puzzled looks. It was completely blank. But just as Dipper was about to say something, an odd thing began to happen.
“Dipper, it’s writing something!” Mabel said excitedly.
It was true. Almost as if by an invisible hand, letters started showing up on the page. They soon spelled out one simple word.
Greetings.
Mabel and Dipper gasped with delight. Had they stumbled upon a book that could communicate with them? They had definitely not been expecting to find something so amazing in a dingy place like this. But, before they could do anything else, a shadow fell over the room. Dipper saw who it was first, and his joyful expression switched to one of fear.
“Mabel, look out!”
Mabel’s head shot up, and she gasped. It was Stan. And he did not look happy. He lunged forward. Dipper pulled Mabel backwards and pushed her behind him. But Stan’s focus wasn’t on them, for the moment. He quickly snatched up the glass case and slammed it back down over the book. It was only then that his gaze fixed on the twins. Mabel and Dipper both felt their heartbeats kick up a notch. Stan looked so angry, angrier than they had ever seen him before.
“Why did you come here?” Stan growled.
“We’re...we’re sorry,” Mabel stuttered, trembling behind her brother. “We...we didn’t mean to-”
“I told you never to come here!” Stan’s voice was rising, and getting louder.
“We weren’t going to do anything, we swear!” Dipper frantically cried as he and Mabel stumbled backwards.
“Do you realize what you could have done!?” Stan’s claw shot forward. A table nearby shattered in half with a single blow from him.
“Stop, please!” Mabel begged, her voice choked up with fear.
“Get out!”
Stan’s arm moved to deliver another blow. Dipper reacted in a split second.
“Mabel, run!”
He grabbed his sister’s hand and pulled her out of the way. He took off at a run, dragging her along with him. They could hear the sounds of furniture getting smashed into pieces and torn to shreds. And they could hear Stan shout at them one more time.
“GET OUT!”
Dipper and Mabel burst through the door, desperately clinging onto each other’s fingers as they sprinted down the hall. Nothing else mattered except getting as far away from Stan as possible. What they didn’t see, however, was Stan’s anger melting away, and regret replacing it. By the time they were tearing down the stairs, his hands covered his face in shame.
Soos and Wendy spotted the twins first. And they were alarmed by two major things: the fear on their faces, and the cloaks they had in their hands.
“Wait, where are you guys going?” Soos asked as the kids dashed past him and Wendy. “You can’t leave!”
“Promise or no promise, we’re not staying here another minute with that...that...beast!” Dipper shouted as he and Mabel threw open the front door.
“No, wait, you can’t!”
But Wendy’s protests fell on deaf ears. The twins slammed the door shut behind them and were soon running through the snow as fast as they could. The wind was frigid, but they didn’t pay any attention to it. Adrenaline pushed them forward, and they didn’t let go of each other’s hands for an instant. They only halted when a certain sound caught their ears.
“Dipper, did you hear that?” Mabel asked, pulling her brother to a stop.
Dipper listened. The sound was heard again, and he realized what it was. It was a wolf’s howl. And it was close. There was a growling sound behind him. He and Mabel spun around. Three wolves were at the top of a nearby hill. And they were looking at the twins with hunger in their eyes.
“Run!” Dipper shouted as he took off, pulling Mabel along.
Almost instantly, the wolves gave chase. Both twins knew this was bad, really bad. Outrunning wolves on foot was practically a suicide mission. But they kept at it anyway. Dipper glanced behind them. The wolves were catching up fast. He had to think of a plan.
“Dipper!”
Mabel’s cry made him face forward. He gasped as he and his sister skidded to a halt. The rest of the pack had cut them off. With wolves ahead and behind them, they were trapped.
Dipper’s mind spun, trying to think fast. There had to be some way out of this. He spotted a hefty looking stick in the ground. He picked it up, brandishing it like a club. Mabel spied a second stick and did the same.
“Stay back!” Dipper shouted. He swung his stick left and right, trying to drive the wolves away. Half of the pack snarled and yapped at him while the other half went for Mabel.
With her heart in her throat, Mabel tried to fight them back. But one of the wolves managed to get a hold of her stick with its jaws and bite it in half. She could only stumble backwards as another one leaped forward. Its teeth latched onto her cloak, pulling her to the ground, and pinning her in place. She turned to see another wolf advancing towards her, fangs glistening.
“Dipper!” she screamed.
Dipper turned, and he felt his breath catch.
“Mabel!”
He tried to run towards her, but a wolf pounced on him, sending him to the ground. Its jaws latched onto his stick and he struggled as hard as he could to push it off. He had to save his sister. He had to, he had to. In the corner of his eye, he saw Mabel trying to escape, and the wolf about to attack.
No, no, no, no!
Mabel screamed as the wolf lunged towards her. She covered her face with her hands. But the wolf never made contact. A roar suddenly sounded, and it was different from the howling and snarling of the wolves. She looked up, and she gasped.
“Stan?”
Dipper saw it too, and he was astonished. Stan had the wolf in his paws and he threw it away as if it was nothing more than a rag doll. Stan...was here? In less than a second, he moved and swatted away the wolf that was on top of Dipper like it was a fly. Dipper scrambled backwards towards Mabel as the wolves focused their attention on this new enemy.
Almost instantly, everything was a blur of snarling, claws, and fangs. Stan may have been heavily outnumbered, but he wasn’t about to be taken down so easily. The twins watched in astonishment as he fought them off, despite getting attacked from every angle. After one wolf left a particularly nasty gash on his arm, he locked his claws around it and chucked it hard against a tree. It slammed into the trunk, then plopped onto the snow. It didn’t get back up. That was enough to make the other wolves take off running, whimpering in fear.
For a brief moment, there was no sound at all, nothing but the ice-cold wind blowing through the air. Stan turned to look at the twins, breathing heavily. Blood ran down his right arm. Then his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he collapsed onto the snow.
Mabel and Dipper didn’t say a word. They just looked at each other, and they immediately thought the same thing. Freedom was within their grasp. They could leave now, go back to their village, to Fiddleford. But it only took them a second to realize that they couldn’t do that, not now. Stan had risked his life for theirs. They couldn’t just abandon him. In silent acknowledgement, they knew what they had to do.
They hurried over to Stan’s side. Dipper heaved up one arm while Mabel did the same with the other. The castle wasn’t too far away. They could make it. And so, with determination in their eyes, they headed back, pulling Stan along with them
Stan was awake in hardly any time at all. The twins weren’t sure if it was because he was a beast or if he was just that tough. But, the nasty gash on his arm still worried them. Which was why they were in the parlor, along with Stan, who was seated in his big old armchair. They could see Soos and Wendy nervously spectating them, but they tried not to worry about that.
“Okay, here we go,” Mabel said to herself as she dunked a rag into some hot water and wrung it out. She inched towards Stan, who was licking his wounds, literally.
“Hey, don’t do that. You’ll get it infected,” Dipper said, giving him a look.
Stan only growled in return, which made Soos and Wendy back away an inch. Dipper sighed. This was going to be harder than he thought.
Mabel moved forward, trying to place the rag on Stan’s arm. But he pulled away, seemingly not wanting anything to do with her.
“Would you...please...hold...still?” she asked in exasperation as she moved this way and that, trying to get Stan’s arm. She finally succeeded in placing the rag on his wound, but that instantly made him roar loudly. Soos and Wendy’s eyes went wide and they instantly darted behind a coffee table.
“That hurts!” Stan yelled. Mabel, however, was not about to back down.
“If you’d just hold still, it wouldn’t hurt as much,” she argued.
“If you and your brother hadn’t have run away, this wouldn’t have happened,” Stan pointed out.
“If you hadn’t nearly scared us half to death, we wouldn’t have run away,” Dipper retorted.
Stan opened his mouth to argue, but he seemed at a loss for words for a moment at what Dipper said. That didn’t stop him from coming up with some kind of retort, though.
“Well, you two shouldn’t have been in the West Wing.”
“Well, you should learn to control your temper,” Mabel replied.
Soos and Wendy slowly peeked their heads out from behind the coffee table. This was interesting, to say the least. Nobody usually argued with Stan for a lengthy amount of time. But the twins seemed to have no problem with it. Stan growled, but he at least let Mabel take his arm.
“Now hold still. This is gonna sting a little bit,” she said.
She pressed the hot rag against the claw marks on his arm. Stan hissed in a breath. Mabel pulled back for a second, but when Stan didn’t move his arm away, she continued. She and Dipper shared a glance before she spoke again.
“By the way, thank you, for saving us back there,” she said.
“Yeah. We would have been goners if it wasn’t for you,” Dipper chimed in.
Those words surprised Stan. Receiving gratitude, thanks...it hadn’t happened in a long time. The words almost felt foreign to him. But, they touched him nevertheless.
“You’re welcome,” was all he said in reply. But Dipper and Mabel knew that he had taken their words to heart. Despite everything, they had managed to become closer to him. Maybe living here wouldn’t be so bad after all.
Anyway, jokes aside, I received requests to do some more stuff with @artsycrapfromsai‘s AU! I hope you like this, I had fun with it. :) (it’s not really in fairy tale style oops)
Enjoy!
As the sun fell below the horizon, the two children left the dining room, and headed off to bed, bidding the Beast goodnight. Happiness swelled within his chest, and he wished them pleasant dreams, before heading up the stairs to visit his brother.
The Beast opened his brother’s bedroom door, and gazed upon the glass case that sat in the middle of the room. He slowly walked towards it, and opened the case gently, picking up the journal as though it might fall apart at any second. A tear rolled down his cheek as he looked at what remained of his twin. There was only one last page left inside the book. If it were to fall, all hope of ever looking into his brother’s face again would be lost.
Just as he was making ready to head off to his own bedroom, a loud crash made him stop in his tracks. The crash was followed by a scream, a scream that he recognized as Dipper’s.
Hurtling down the steps, the Beast came upon a horrific scene. The downstairs windows had been shattered, and at least 20 people stood before him. They had cleavers and knives in their hands, and murder in their eyes.
Dipper and Mabel were cowering in a corner, as a short boy with tall white hair spoke to them.
“We’re saving you, don’t you see?” he said, a pleading tone to his voice. He reached out his hand, and gave Mabel a pat on the head.
The Beast roared in fury. Nobody would lay hands upon these children, not while he was alive.
The short boy turned, a look of hate twisting his normally pleasant features.
“It’s the Beast! Kill him!”
The townspeople surged forward, and the Beast attempted to break through them to get to Dipper and Mabel. But all he got for his efforts were deep wounds in his paws.
“Run!” Mabel screamed, “Please!”
So the Beast turned tail and ran, the townspeople at his heels. But to his immense shock and gratitude, his servants jumped to his aid, allowing the Beast to escape.
“Soos,” the Beast said, turning to his most trusted servant, “Thank y--”
“Dude, get out of here!” Soos shouted, narrowly avoiding a cruel blade.
The Beast slammed open his brother’s door, and threw himself upon the glass case. No matter what happened, he had to protect the journal. Nothing could happen to it.
The shouting became louder, and all of a sudden, the Beast heard--
“Beastie!”
“Pumpkin!” the Beast said, turning to see Mabel and Dipper in the doorway, breathing heavily.
“Oh, Beastie!” Mabel said, rushing forward into the Beast’s waiting arms, “You have to leave, they’re coming, Gideon--”
“Not while you’re in danger!” the Beast said angrily.
“They want us alive,” Dipper said, frustration in his voice. “It’s you they want dead.”
“Indeed it is!”
The trio looked up to see Gideon standing in the doorway, his usually carefully coiffed hair a mess.
“You won’t harm Mabel anymore!” Gideon yelled. “Or her brother,” he added, advancing towards the Beast.
“Oh how I’ve waited to do this!” Gideon said, and in one fluid motion, pulled out a serrated dagger, and thew it into the Beast’s chest.
“No!” Mabel screamed, but the dagger had hit right above the Beast’s heart.
“How dare you!” Dipper screamed, and punched Gideon square in the face, knocking him to the ground, his head hitting the ground with a crack.
The two had no idea what to do. The Beast was dying, and if they pulled the dagger out, the blood loss would be even worse. Dipper rushed over to the journal, knowing it was the Beast’s most prized possession. If he could guarantee it’s safety, perhaps that would bring comfort to the Beast as he died.
“It’s going to be okay,” Mabel said, tears falling thick and fast.
“Oh no no NO!” Dipper shouted, looking at the journal. It had fallen open, and the last page was starting to fall.
“I promise, it’ll be fine,” Mabel said, ignoring her brother. She pulled the now unconscious Beast into a tight hug. “We love you too much, Beastie, we WON’T LET YOU DIE!”
Her declaration of love came just as the last page of the journal fell. To the twin’s surprise, the Beast rose into the air, and began to gently rotate, surrounded by a blue mist. And when the mist fell away, a handsome older man stood before them. Behind him stood a man who looked almost identical to him.
“Beastie?” Mabel said in wonder.
“Please,” the man said, tears in his eyes, “Call me Stan.”
