in art therapy we’re learning about diagrammatic versus embodied images. diagrammatic images are where you’re trying to make the picture in your mind look like something specific; you’ve got a good idea of what you want to portray and you try your best to make it accurate. with embodied images, you don’t have a preconceived idea of what you’re creating; you might have a feeling or a snippet of an image, but you let the materials guide you. this is a roundabout way of saying I really enjoy creating and seeing what comes up, rather than planning what something will look like. and then you get stuff like this! how neat!
