In point of fact, neither– but I think to address the actual question I’m not sure you can separate out one’s actions from reasons and vice-versa. Our nouns become our verbs, our actions become ourselves, and in turn influence what we do in future. Honestly, chicken or egg.

I think most people have a set of beliefs, and traits that guide their actions moving forward. So yeah.
