If not the actual experiment that was the catalyst to the virus almost wiping them out--because for real their immune system was practically on fire, it was incredibly touch and go- it was dealing with the aftermath after they clawed their way out of it and went awol.

Pep had stopped breathing for a good moment, and their blood pressure dropped, and Doc thought they were gone right then. They never truly flatlined, but then they wouldn't wake up. Ofco you never turn your back on the bodies, but Doc did and Pep took off.

They had an incredibly hard few weeks after that though. They couldn't keep any food down, they were in pain (from both the reaction and sun exposure), and had a sinking feeling in their stomach with a craving for something they couldn't pinpoint. Pep couldn't think straight, and they're pretty sure they blacked out for a bit there. Ya girl (neutral) was going through it. Pretty sure during that time, they were just straight up snatching people on instinct, they have no clue what happened in that time.

When they finally managed to drag themselves out of it, the city Dome had been raised and apparently there were bloodthirsty monsters out there, but it turned out Pep was already one of them.
