September 2013.
The next time Nara saw Wooyoung, she had already broken up with Kyuhyun. It was the best thing to do, anyway.
They didn't know how to behave, and since Heechul, Yesung, and Leeteuk were in the military, Nara chose to distance herself from the boys too. She didn't want the situation to become suffocating between any of them; she was afraid of what Kyu could have said about her in the dormitory and hated the tense looks whenever the two shared the same place. That wasn't what she wanted.
They had broken up with a common goal in mind: the best for Super Junior. That had been the condition for their relationship, right? Not letting possible breakups interfere with the group. They had talked about it when they started things.
She had talked to Jiyong about the situation, received good advice and a shoulder to cry on... but that was only for a short time because she knew he was very busy with tours and planning the new album. She didn't want to disturb him or her other friends from BigBang. So, trying her best to keep her spirits up during practice, she preferred to hang out with the girls in the dorm in her free time – without neglecting practice or her activities as a member of Super Junior, of course.
Nara had at least one reason to celebrate: Tiffany was finally dating Nichkhun.
“Are you guys going out again?” Seohyun asked, closing the book she was reading but leaving her finger in the page divider so she could return to exactly where she had left off. “You know this is wrong, the manager told us to stay home today.”
Sooyoung looked at the girls, who were putting on their masks, hats, and coats, ready to deal with the low temperatures and not get caught by the paparazzi. She didn't say anything, just continued eating her ramen, with her legs up on the sofa. She didn't care that much.
“She won't even know,” Sunny tried to argue. She wanted to leave right away because every minute wasted was one less minute without drinking with the boys.
Seohyun looked at Nara, as if asking her, as sunbae and the oldest in the group, to convince them to stay home. After all, if the manager had gone out with Taeyeon, they weren't really subordinate to anyone... but Nara was another one who was getting ready to leave.
“We won't be long,” Nara replied, trying to get the maknae to stop staring at her like that. Sometimes she felt that Seohyun stared at her as if she knew all her sins, and she didn't know why she was treated that way. It was Nara who should have treated her badly, in a fit of jealousy because of SeoKyu, but she never did.
The maknae snorted and rolled her eyes.
“Another appearance of Seobot,” Tiffany whispered, and Nara laughed. As roommates, they had already talked about Seohyun's attitude toward Nara and some of the younger girl's personal issues with her.
No one said anything else and they left the apartment; Tiffany, Nara, Sunny, and Yoona headed for the 2PM boys' dormitory.
The boys used to have visitors come over to drink with them, but it seemed like the apartment was cleaner than usual. Was this the effect that soshi and Nara had? None of them commented on it, but they all looked at each other when they smelled cleaning products – which was soon forgotten as the smell of alcohol filled the room.
They spent almost the entire night playing drinking games. Beer pong, flip cup and, finally, Never Have I Ever. Some sat on the sofa, on the floor, on chairs they had taken from one of the rooms, or anywhere else that was comfortable enough. They gave the girls priority to sit in the best seats, whether out of chivalry, interest, or because they were visitors.
They filled their glasses and started the game.
“Never Have I Ever read a fanfic about someone who is here in this room,” Wooyoung said, being the first in the round. His enthusiastic smile showed that there was a reason for asking that exact question.
“You're such a bastard,” Taecyeon retorted, taking a sip of his drink. Apparently, he had told Wooyoung (or more roommates) about it in secret, feeling betrayed for being exposed.
Luckily for him, before they could ask who the fanfic was about, Yoona and Junho also took sips of their respective drinks, attracting attention.
“It's her fault!” Junho tried to defend himself, pointing at Yoona. “She sent me a 2PM fanfic at 3 a.m.,” he explained.
“I thought it was really funny!” she laughed. “And you liked it too! You said you laughed so hard you woke the boys up,” she said, exposing him even more.
Nara drank a little too. “On one of the tours, the boys and I went to read some famous ones and we had a lot of fun too. Of course, they all stared at each other strangely when the couples appeared, but it was nothing we didn't already know already about the ships in the group,” she explained.
Those light-hearted moments were always the best for Nara. It would start with normal conversation, progress to a funny situation (like reading fanfiction about Super Junior), and end with the best possible discussions: who would be the bottom and who would be the top in threesomes, who had already had anal sex with their girlfriend, them asking Nara how women felt during it and her not knowing how to answer, what stereotypes they had about sex with each member... Many hilarious discussions that only happened because of the constant interaction on tour and intimacy they had.
“I just wanted to know what the fans thought of me. I read a lot of different ones,” Sunny said, laughing and taking a sip of her drink.
When it was Tiffany's turn, she thought for a moment about what she wanted to know. Then, with an arched eyebrow and a smug smile, she turned to her beloved beside her and said, “I've never kissed in the JYP bathroom.” It was a risky question, but a great one to find out what Nichkhun had already done.
Chansung, Taecyeon, and Wooyoung drank from their drinks. They didn't need to explain themselves, they were fuckboys and had casually hook up or made out with a lot of trainees. However, neither Jun K nor Nichkhun drank, the latter maintaining eye contact with Tiffany before repeating the question with a mischievous smile. “I've never kissed in the SM bathroom,” he said.
He thought he was counterattacking. After all, if she had thought of that, it was probably based on her previous experiences, right? However, Nara was the only one to drink from her glass, which drew shocked looks from both the boys and girls.
“It was my first kiss,” she explained, shrugging. The girls' wide eyes only made the boys' interest grow more. Some “jinjja” were spoken to her, who just nodded.
If they had been living together since 2007 and didn't know about this fact, how many other things they didn't know about her? The boys thought for a moment and realised that, although they had seen Nara very drunk and in uncomfortable situations at parties, they had never actually seen her dating or, at the very least, kissing anyone else. Strange. Was she really that single, or was she just good at hiding it?
“Do we know them?” Sunny asked excitedly. The smile on her face revealed an unusual curiosity, which indicated that she would probably try to find out more about this gossip later. Nara nodded. "Super Junior?" she asked again, but this time Nara shook her head.
“I can't believe you didn't tell me,” Tiffany said, stretching across the circle to slap Nara's arm.
“It was long before we became roommates,” she tried to explain. It was true. The only one who had found out at the time was Hyoyeon, and after that, Nara felt awkward telling other people, after all, it would seem like she was bragging or worse, lying. She had mixed feelings about it.
“You guys gave me an idea!” Chansung, the next one in line, said with a smile on his face, certain that it would make them lower their fingers. “I've never kissed a Super Junior.”
Without thinking, Nara took another sip from her glass and then froze. How could she explain that without mentioning Kyuhyun? It wasn't because they had broken up that they would go around telling people about the time they had been together. To other people, they were just friends. She didn't want to talk about Yesung either, that was even worse. She remembered Henry, in truth or dare, but would they consider him part of Super Junior? Or just SJ-M?
“I KNEW YOU HAD ALREADY KISSED HEECHUL,” Nichkhun shouted, startling Tiffany with his enthusiasm. Apparently, it was something the members of 2PM had already discussed among themselves and even made bets on.
Nara nodded, as if she had thought of him the moment she drank the drink. Like it or not, it was true. How could she have forgotten that? It had been so long since...
“They say we flirt with lots of idols, but he's just the same,” Taecyeon said, as if competing with Heechul.
“He's leaving the army now, so you better watch out or he's going to flirt with all the idols you think are crazy for you,” Nara joked. She was looking forward to when Heechul returned from the army and they could go out again; she missed her friend, but she agreed that he was also a date hunter.
They started discussing Heechul, Nara, and Super Junior in general, so no one noticed Yoona discreetly drinking from her glass. Seohyun thought Nara was a bad influence? She wasn't influencing anyone, Yoona was defiant herself.
Shortly afterwards, the game continued, with each person making one or two statements, until everyone's glasses were empty. They continued with a simple conversation among friends, commenting on acquaintances and the newest gossip around.
Tiffany and Nichkhun started kissing on the couch, little pecks and giggles that soon caught the attention of their friends. The jokes began, but all she did was flip off the boys before going back to kissing her boyfriend.
Nara missed her drink, now that none of them had any liquid left in their glasses, and went to the kitchen, opening the refrigerator as if it were her own home to look for more bottles of soju – or any other alcohol, for that matter.
“Bring us some too,” someone shouted from the living room, but Nara didn't recognize the voice.
“Someone will have to help me carry them,” she shouted back. She could carry two or three bottles, maybe, but for all of them? She would need help.
The moment Yoona got up, ready to help, Junho grabbed her hand and pulled her to sit back on the couch. He shook his head, having an entire conversation with her just with their eyes. She nodded, understanding everything, and in less than a second, Wooyoung got up and went to help Nara in the kitchen.
The drinks never made it to the living room. Wooyoung and Nara completely forgot about the other people and spent almost an hour just talking in the kitchen. Sometimes they would look at the drinks and say, “We have to take them to the others,” but then the conversation would turn to something else also very interesting and they would forget again. Wooyoung would make a joke and Nara would laugh until she had tears in the corners of her eyes.
Then Tiffany knocked lightly on the kitchen door to get their attention. She didn't want to disrupt the mood between them, especially now that she knew Nara had ended a long-term relationship and needed to go out with someone else – and she seemed happy with Wooyoung.
“Sorry to interrupt, but we have to go, Nara,” she said. Wooyoung was leaning on the counter and Nara had an unopened bottle of soju in her hand; she approached them, holding up her cell phone so Nara could see the message.
Taeyeon had told the manager that they had gone to the market. That meant they had to get back to the dorm quickly, but first stop by the market so they wouldn't incriminate themselves. Luckily, none of them were drunk anymore – or, at least, good enough to act sober –, since Nara ended up not renewing the alcohol in the living room.
Nara nodded, showing that she understood the situation. She heard people saying goodbye in the room and turned to Wooyoung with the same intention. He moved away from the counter and took two steps toward Nara, stopping in front of her. She raised her eyebrow, almost challenging him.
“There's no ‘other guy’ anymore,” he said, his voice lower and rougher. His eyes locked deeply into hers.
“Is it that obvious?” she asked.
“From the way you stared at me all night, I could still say that you were the one who broke up with him,” he smiled mischievously, and Nara rolled her eyes. Wooyoung was too cocky.
“It was mutual,” she replied coldly.
“Only an idiot would settle for a breakup with you,” he said, taking a good look at Nara. She could feel his gaze marking her entire body. She felt almost vulnerable, so she chuckled.
“We decided it would be better if we remained friends,” she shrugged and looked him straight in the eye again. During that entire friendly conversation, they hadn't talked about the flirting at the Grown after party... in fact, Nara wouldn't bring it up, but Wooyoung had clearly noticed her recent interest in him. She had already considered him as a possible suitor.
He wanted to ask who the lucky (or, now, unlucky) guy was. Did Wooyoung know him? Perhaps the rumors about G-Dragon were true, and that was why he hadn't been attending many parties recently. No, he wouldn't be talking about another guy when this was the perfect time to flirt with her.
“Does that mean I can flirt with you now?” he said, his voice sweet as honey – just as he knew women liked to hear it.
“You're too persistent,” she said, sighing in boredom and looking away. He had to clench his jaw because he felt like smiling. Deep down, she was... enjoying it? She wasn't going to let him know that.
“And you're too beautiful,” he replied, tilting his head and moving even closer to her.
Nara stopped him before they could kiss, placing a hand on his chest and pushing him back. She raised an eyebrow, snubbing him. Did he think it would be that easy?
“I'll accept one date. Surprise me,” she said, before leaving the kitchen with strong, confident steps.
