❝ I choose you. ❞ Sage gaze, both in wiseness beyond his appearance and hue, rove the lowered visage of the elder Vampire. Not one to keep his hands to himself, for it was not in his nature to remain idle ⸻ as though the old adage still clung to his long damned soul ⸻ he extends chilled knuckles to trail along the sharp jawline which flexed beneath his touch. ❝ I keep choosin’ you. Every day. ❞
❝Are you certain?❞
How could gentle words like these hurt so much? Every touch from those familiar hands felt like needles to the skin. Those emerald-green eyes, which had captivated him from the very first second he laid eyes on them, seemed to shower him with love only to destroy everything he had built up with unbridled hatred. Like a drowning man, Armand clung to the only person who mattered to him. Now that they had left San Francisco behind, things could only get better, couldn’t they?
Armand raised a hand and placed it gently over the other vampire’s, as if Louis might burst into flames when he touched him too hard. Perhaps Armand couldn’t forget the sight of Louis’s burned, weakened body in 1973 either. Was Armand still on suicide watch? Was Louis telling the truth? Or were all his words clouded by the fact that Armand had erased those horrific events from his companion’s memory? He wasn’t sure. Did it make any difference?
They had arrived in Dubai just a few days ago after leaving everything behind (yet again). Their new penthouse wasn’t even halfway furnished. In fact, almost nothing had arrived at their new home yet, and it was making Armand angrier than expected and anticipated.
Armand sighed, turned his head slightly to the side, and kissed Louis’ palm. ❝I know I shouldn’t get upset about people’s incompetence.❞ But he certainly was. ❝What do you think about the penthouse?❞ As it was the first time they saw it in person. Perhaps he only wanted to hear from Louis that coming here was not a decision to regret.
