For assessment one, I aim to create a communal performance piece, where my audience will play a vital part on the creation of my A2 poster. By creating an interactive environment, I am coordinating relational aesthetics, which will develop my poster into a social experience rather than a simple sign. I aspire to achieve the topic desire by drawing on the emotional feeling rather than a physical representation of the verb. I took inspiration from artists such as Yoko Ono, and specifically Marina Abramovic and her piece “Rhythm O” as they both focus on identity, individuality and human energy when they allow their spectators to freely get involved with their pieces. By creating an interactive artwork, the unknown is inevitable as everyone pulls from their personal taste and preference; what they desire. By having a range of materials set in front of the audience to utilize, it will become apparent that every person is diverse, resulting from each person creating something different on the poster. As I have provided a range of tools to conceptualize, it is easy to analyze each person; for example, why had someone chosen to use paint as a tool instead of stickers; is it purely due to taste, or something more influential such as childhood memories or emotional and spiritual connections; this will result in my poster becoming an abstract statement about individuality and uniqueness. I am giving total control of artistic direction to the audience. By doing this, what is shown on the canvas is provoked by the emotions of the individual, not by a preconceived notion that would affect and influence their inner desire. I hope to create a flexible atmosphere where experimentation shines through individual’s personalities, converting my plain A2 piece of foam board into a manifesto of people’s personal interests and desires.
