QMUNITY: Queer Inclusivity and Ally-hood. A workshop in Vancouver
QMUNITY: Queer Inclusivity and Ally-hood
Saturday, November 11 at 1 PM - 3 PM Qmunity Annex - #610 1033 Davie St Buzz 610 to be let into the building.
This event is a general meet; we welcome family, friends, partners, and allies as well as those who identify on the asexual and/or aromantic spectrums. The theme this time will be "Queer Inclusivity and Ally-hood." What do we need and want from allies? How are allies in academia and other queer communities interacting with us? How about family, friends, and partners? The event will start out with a round of introductions, and maybe a quick icebreaker if enough people come, followed by general discussion.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a course running at Simon Fraser University called "Critical Nonsexualities" that aims to study various forms of asexuality and other nonsexualities. It is possibly the very first university-level course to focus on our movement and movements like ours. We will be inviting the instructor and students to join us for this event (who may or may not also identify on the ace/aro spectrums), to foster discussion. We aim for a two-way discussion, where we will be able to talk with them about academic studies and theoretical work around asexuality, and they will also be able to chat with us about what they've learned or are still wondering about. Please be advised that this event is not hosted by AVEN and therefore the content in the event may not reflect the values that AVEN has regarding asexuality.
