“This is so beautiful,” Asha said to Johnny as she looked at the fire from the log she was sitting on. Johnny, sitting beside her, grinned from ear to ear at her compliment despite there being nothing unique about his fire. Just a touch to the campfire logs and the flames warmed all around them. He just really appreciated the kind words that came from Asha.
The rest of the Fire Pirates slept all around them, Johnny’s eyes all darted to where the crew slept. Jai was the current pillow of the night with Pierre, Roisin, and Shevon all curled around him. Dahlia curled her body around Roisin, her petal arms almost a light blanket for her. Even in her sleep, Dahlia will always find some way to keep Roisin protected from any troubles of the world.
“You always say that about my fires, Asha,” Johnny teased with a quiet laugh but the light reflected off her face, a frown painted on. Her ears dropped down as she looked straight at him.
“There is a difference between a regular fire and your own fire. Fires that you make always have your smell to them.”
“My smell?”
“Mhm,” Asha nodded and shifted so her body was fully facing him. “I think the crystal gives you a smoky scent, something that is similar to a pepper. Maybe not a pepper, exactly. But kind of spicy.”
Johnny hummed contently, a giddy, fluttering feeling spreading through him as she babbled to him. Her alto voice was euphonic, music to his ears. There was a level of excitement at being able to experience all the fascinating thoughts and proclamations of Asha. Her ears periodically twitch along with her tail, with her tongue poking out periodically.
“The crystal wasn’t spicy to me. But I grew up on spicy foods so I’m not the best judge,” Johnny giggled, scooting closer to Asha. The two of them were knee to knee with each other and Asha slowly wrapped her fluffy tail around him. He rested his head on her shoulder and Asha rested her head on top of his.
“Go to sleep, Captain. I have watch.”
“You are staring at me a lot, Roisin,” Asha would point out with a curious expression on her face. Roisin’s face heated up at the very accurate statement, clearing her throat as Asha would step closer to him. By most standards, Roisin herself was not short by any means. She held her 5’7 height like a badge of honor against her chest. But right now, at Asha’s very own 6’1, she was definitely feeling small, especially with the uncharacteristically heated stare towards her.
Like a cat to a mouse. And a part of Roisin hoped that Asha liked to play with her food.
“I-I don’t mean it to be weird or anything,” Roisin stumbled, her face turning as red as her hair as Asha’s tail gently crawled up her side. Asha hummed in acknowledgement, tucking a strand of her curly red hair behind her ear.
“I never said that it was weird,” Asha clarified for her, a purr to her voice. She cupped her face in both of her hands and Roisin felt dizzy at the sensation of Asha’s claw-like nails brushing her cheek “In fact, I am extremely flattered.”
The two of them stared into each other’s eyes for a silent few minutes, a heat forming in Roisin’s stomach at the intense stare. Asha licked her lips as her eyes darted down to her lips. She began to purr as her tail lightly twitched from side to side. Roisin bit her lip, wondering if she could blush any harder at Asha’s intense stare. She was also surprised Pierre of all people could keep himself composed around her.
“You’re always so pretty,” Roisin says in a daze and Asha giggled at the straightforward response. She leaned down, her lips brushing against Roisin’s ear with a grin.
“You too, Roisin,” Asha whispered in response, a shiver running up her spine at the sultry tone.
“We’re alone on the ship, by the way.”
“Yes, I can see that.”
“Um,” Roisin began, the heat traveling down to her neck as she realized that she would have to be very direct. She shifted one foot from the other and took a deep breath to soothe her beating heart. “Do you wanna have sex?”
Asha raised her eyebrows at the question and hummed softly, gently tapping her fingers on the side of Roisin’s face. She gently let go of Roisin’s face and Roisin had to stop a whine from bumping out of her. A bubble of anxiety began to grow in the pit of Roisin’s stomach, wondering if she’s crossed a line. Was this going to mess with their friendship? Was Asha just being friendly? She was always pretty touchy so this shouldn’t be something out of character for her, right? And why did she have to say it so crudely?
Asha began to rub her tail against Roisin’s side, the gesture less suggestive and more soothing. Sighing softly, Roisin looked up at her. Out of all the things she would’ve thought to see, Asha seemed nervous herself. A small frown was on her face, her eyebrows furrowed tightly.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to, I don’t want you to feel pressured,” Roisin clarified quickly and Asha’s worried expression softened. She shook her head at her, tightening her lips.
“It’s not that, I’ve just never had sex before.”
“With a girl?”
“With anyone.”
Roisin hummed softly with a small nod, embarrassment beginning to form on Asha’s face. She threaded her fingers through her hair and gently scratched behind her ears, letting out a shaky breath as Asha gently arched her back. Her chest popping out so close to her face, With a bite of her lip, Asha looked down at Roisin with a flushed expression on her face.
“That’s not a problem for me,” Roisin said softly and stood on her tiptoes to whisper in her ear “I’ll show you everything you need to know.”
“Where did you find the cat, Zoro?” Nami suddenly asks him at the table, Zoro looking up from his food to stare at her. Asha never moved from her spot against his feet and the vibrations from her purring. He reached down to lightly scratch at the top of her head and she leaned into Zoro’s hand. Damn that cute cat.
“Found her in a bad storm. Asked around and she was apparently nobody’s cat,” Zoro explained, praying and hoping that his practicing of his lie paid off. Nami nodded, seemingly satisfied with his answer.
“She’s a pretty cat. Has the biggest eyes I’ve ever seen, she looks like a little ragdoll,” Nami cooed and reached over to let Asha sniff her hand. Asha rubbed her head on Nami’s hand, making her smile from ear to ear. Nami gently pulled her hand away and Asha got cozy against Zoro’s legs.
“I’ve never seen any animal be so comfortable around Zoro,” Usopp pointed out with wonder in his voice, staring down at the cat. Zoro would’ve had to agree with him, but that would require telling her secret. If it wasn’t even a secret at all.
“Yeah, usually animals run away from the mosshead,” Sanji snarked and Zoro rolled his eye, not wanting to start a fight with the cook. Not because of any consideration for him, but a consideration for Asha. She looked too comfortable for him to just move.
“Haha, right,” Zoro mumbled stiffly and tried to eat his food in peace. Quickly, Asha moved to sit in his lap and Zoro’s heart tugged at possibly disturbing her. Out of the corner of his eye though, she never laid down. She just sat in his lap, watching Sanji. The cook never even paid attention.
“Pretty sure the little girl must’ve mistaken your head for a patch of grass,” Sanji said to him with a sneer and before he could step closer, a low growling noise came from Asha. As he stepped closer, Asha jumped onto his shoulder to fully hiss, her fur shooting straight up. Her wide fluffy tail was puffed out. Sanji fully jumped back, bringing both of his hands up.
“I don’t think the cat likes you, Sanji,” Luffy said to him with a laugh, Sanji losing his footing at the unexpected reaction. Everyone watched Asha perched on Zoro’s shoulder, silent and bewildered at the seemingly unexpected reaction.
After a moment of silence, Asha physically calmed down and made herself comfortable in Zoro’s lap. She kneaded into the meat of his thigh and Zoro winced, bearing the pain as she stopped to fully lay down. Her tail gently flopped side to side as she quickly fell asleep in his lap. It was like looking at a girl cat version of himself. Everyone finished eating their food and since they were there, Robin looked over at him with a small smile.
“I think she was protecting Zoro,” Robin pointed out and Zoro looked over at her. “A very strong reaction, too.”
“Yeah? So?”
“Stray cats don’t normally have the kind of perception that she does.”
And if Zoro and Asha both stayed quiet at lunch for the rest of the time, that was between the two of them and nobody else.
The sorcerer of sea and land, Pierre Dauchez was a beautifully dangerous man. Stories told from town to town of crystal blue eyes and sunlight blonde hair that lured other beautiful women to their deaths. Stealing hearts with his beauty and stealing just to eat them. Some would say it was the secret to his beauty.
Asha never understood the stories herself or these supposed motivations. Why seduce some stranger just to eat their heart? Why use said heart just to be beautiful? She hummed to herself as she pondered these questions, threading the needle through the hat in her hands. Asha just accepted the fact that she would never understand these silly stories.
She was the last one in the little hat shop and it was 30 minutes before the shop was to close. Set to close the store, Asha finished her last hat for the client who was set to pick it up in the morning. Manami Fujiwara, that was her name. An older woman with a reserved attitude that Asha has never seen smile, even when the sun was out and shining. Asha wasn’t sure if Manami could even smile.
“And now for the finishing touches,” Asha murmured softly before wrapping the floral fabric into a bow. Near-perfectly tied, Manami would appreciate it a lot. She placed it on the hat mannequin and hummed contently. “You’re going to bring Manami so much success.”
She stood up from her chair and stretched her legs out, the pop from her joints louder in the silence. Asha pushed her chair in and grabbed the keys so that she could properly lock everything up. To fill the silence, Asha hummed an unknown tune while she grabbed her belongings. After an unknown amount of silence to her, Asha stopped humming when she heard some distant footsteps. Her back straightened as she anticipated for those footsteps to get closer but they stayed the same volume they were at. Asha shrugged and turned off the store lights as she stepped outside.
With a final lock on the store, Asha starts her walk down towards her shared apartment with her family. Friends, really, but there wasn’t really a difference to her. She was in no rush home as she basked in the air of the cool, summer breeze hitting her bare arms. The stars and moon shined so brightly, creating beautiful rays of light against so many things around her. Sounds of birds and crickets filled the air, various other animal noises being heard in the distance. The only man-made noise that was heard were her heeled wedges that clicked on the rock ground.
A dangling sound floated above her and Asha’s head darted around, looking for the source of the sound. Absolutely nothing. As she kept walking though, a floral smell filled the air. A natural, subtle scent. Nothing that was man-made.
Asha never stopped her walking but it slowed down as she continued to look for the source of the noise and the smell now. To no avail. there was nothing. She sighed softly, her curiosity not sated as she continued her walk.
“Why so gloom, sweetheart?”
Stopping in her tracks, Asha stared at the figure that practically materialized in front of her. Or he may have been there the whole time she’s been searching, she wasn’t sure. A white man just a few inches shorter than her own 6 '1, Asha’s breath caught in her throat as she stared into the crystal blue eyes. In the light, they shined like natural crystals. His shoulder length blonde hair shined bright, even in the moonlight. With pale yet rosy skin, the man twinkled like he was one of the stars in the sky.
In her trance, Asha missed how close he got to her but never intruded on her personal space. But he couldn’t be missed, not even by someone as oblivious as her. At least, that’s what everyone around her would say.
“You shouldn’t be walking alone by yourself, you know. Dangerous people could be out here,” the mysterious yet familiar man pointed out and the irony wasn’t lost on Asha. The mesmerizing light and beautiful man. It all made sense to her.
“The only dangerous one out here is you, Pierre,” Asha said to him with the smallest emphasis of his name and a purr of her own. He grinned up at her and laughed as he realized his shtick was up.
“So you know who I am. Then I guess I couldn’t take you to explore the woods, either?”
“No.”
Pierre hummed thoughtfully as he tapped the fingers of his right hand on his left hand’s ringers. Asha tilted her head at the motion and waited patiently for what he had to say. She raised her eyebrows as he made a noise to a seemingly formed thought in his head.
“Tell you what, darling,” Pierre began and grabbed her hand, gently lifting it up so it was eye level to the both of them. “Let me at least make your trip home easier. It’ll be quicker than walking.”
It was then Asha’s turn to hum thoughtfully and she tapped her index finger to her bottom lip. Thinking, thinking.
“What is the catch?” Asha asked Pierre and his eyes darted over to the side before looking back over at her. His darting eyes indicated some type of nervousness, she thought to herself. Very different to the heart eating beast she’s heard stories of.
“I would like to see you again,” Pierre said honestly and Asha was surprised at how simple the request was. Nothing costly. “Besides, I don’t want your heart to go to waste on a beast.”
Pierre would never get tired of the wide smile that spreads across his friends’ faces after they ate his food. Especially when they ate any of his baking. The wide grin that lit up Roisin’s face brightened up the semi-lit women’s quarters more than the one light bulb ever could. She squealed once again after taking another bite and swallowed.
“This has been the best birthday ever!” Roisin exclaimed, hugging Pierre, Asha, and Dahlia all at once. Pierre let out a light laugh at the group hug, nuzzling the side of Roisin’s cheek. He would never admit it out loud, but it’s become a habit he picked up from hugging Asha. It’s his favorite thing to do. Roisin pulled a part to grin over at Pierre.
“I love my cake a lot too,” she said to Pierre, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Pierre blushed lightly at the contact. “I love the dress and jewelry you got me, Asha. Must’ve cost you a lot of money.”
“Not really. I got a man to pay to buy everything for me by seducing him. Even though I did not do a lot,” Asha explained to her and Roisin held her hand to her heart with a proud sigh.
“Manipulating a man to buy you expensive jewelry and clothes for me..the student has become the master,” Roisin declared in a silly voice, making the room burst into a fit of light giggles. She then pulled out the bouquet of pastel pink roses and took a sniff out of them.
“And thank you for the flowers, Dahlia, I didn’t even know they made this shade of pink roses,” Roisin explained to her and Dahlia blushed as her round cheeks became redder. Her petals shrunk in on themselves to almost hide her face.
“They don’t, really..I made them myself,” Dahlia mumbled out and Roisin scooted forward to kiss her on the cheek as well.
“Thank you for making the most beautiful roses for me. I will make sure to take good care of them,” Roisin said to her, the smile a lot softer for Dahlia. Pierre looked over between the two of them and looked over at Asha. Asha’s left ear twitched, the normal sign of curiosity from her. So even she was noticing it.
“I have never been to a sleepover, what happens?” Asha asked and Pierre shrugged.
“Whatever we want, but we should definitely let the birthday girl decide,” Pierre said and both Asha and Dahlia nodded in agreement. Everyone looked towards Roisin as she contemplated what to do next.
“Got any more of those cupcakes left?”
