I wasn't surprised about Asher lmao

Although! I was a bit surprised that Javi was as high scoring as they are, and I didn't expect Beaumont/Trevelyan to score higher than Beaumont.

Awwww that's so lovely! Hooray for lesbian swooning 💕 and I massively appreciate hearing that about my physically-competent female characters! Thank you so much. One of the women in my unannounced game is handy with a shotgun and I hope people like her when they meet her!

Yeah that makes sense, the setup won't be everyone's cup of tea!

This did make me pause for thought and made me take a bit of time to think about my romanceable-character process. I like putting characters in situations and figuring out how they relate to the PC, and how the interplay between them and the PC has ripple effects. I do think about what my intention is with the character and how it gels with the themes/tone of the game, but relationship health, or how happy/settled I think the characters would be in the long term doesn't tend to be part of that.

Anyway, thank you for the comment, it gave me some musing time!

I think Trevelyan tries to get through to Asher at one point and Asher is like "I'm happy with things the way they are :)"

With "Royal Affairs" by @hpowellsmith being released soon (I am so very excited!!) I dug up my old illustration of my RA OC Princess Claudette with her bodyguard and childhood friend Asher (and how I imagined him when I played the demo over a year ago).

Does Asher always wear suits and pants only because it's practical for their job or because they actually like wearing them? My fav Asher is f!Asher so it's interesting thinking about whether she would like dresses/skirts or not if it has nothing to do with her bodyguard job

Hmmmm this is so interesting! You know my instinctive thought is that Asher doesn't always distinguish between the practical needs of the job vs personal preference? like they are incredibly accustomed to their job taking precedent over everything else and are pretty cheerful about that. (Yes, Asher has a very healthy and normal attitude.) (I really like exploring how work, including schoolwork, affects people, it's one of the major themes I come back to again and again.)

THAT SAID, there is a particular point in Royal Affairs where Asher wears an outfit that isn't chosen for practical reasons, and it's an incredibly beautiful and fancy suit; I think they generally enjoy the feel of that kind of outfit regardless of gender. If they want to go for a dramatic swish as they walk, they'd probably go for wide-legged trousers rather than a big skirt, and for sleepwear they like cosy pyjamas rather than a nightdress. For some of my gender-selectable characters, they change up their outfits or style based on their gender; Asher doesn't so much.

I haven't played their RO route yet but I'm going to assume they're popular because of the bodyguard trope and played with Asher as a man. There's nothing wrong with that of course I'm just going off of what I know which is that most players play gender-selectable ROs as male.

Mm, maybe. I don't know if Asher is especially appealing as a man over being another gender, but obviously there's no way of looking into the alternate universes where they're non-selectable and how they'd be differently received if set to one or another. (And what a way of using the ability to see into alternate universes that would be lmao)

It all depends how many people playing are interested in romancing fictional guys vs other genders I suppose! A lot of people do like cute bodyguards though, and I knew that when I started sketching out the game, so that would certainly be a thing. Hopefully the way I wrote the character contributed also!

(I have other thoughts about pre-existing [not necessarily romantic] relationships in games as well, but that's something I want to write about separate to this. Long story short, it's something people can enjoy a ton, or dislike a ton, and it can be an interesting challenge to make it work well.)

Hehe Asher (Millstone) is the worst/best

We've been rewatching HTGAWM - we started around when it was airing, stopped in S3, then watched it all a few years ago, and are now returning. Just started S5! It has its wobbles but overall I love it a lot (and I also find its wobbles fascinating to think about).

The rewatch was prompted by loving the How We Got Away With Murder podcast, because I'm a sucker for behind the scenes stuff for TV shows!
