I mean this seriously, but is it bad to have 7 black neons, an albino bristlenose, a betta and a pond snail in a tank? They all seem to be doing very well with space and such but after reading through your blog I'm worried that I'm a bad fish owner.

Being a “bad fish owner” isn’t so cut-and-dry as having made mistakes, everyone begins somewhere and no one was perfect from the start. What’s important is how you handle the situation when you’re made aware of these mistakes, what’s important is that you continue to try and improve your knowledge and better the welfare of your animals.

The changes you need to make will depend, in part, on the size of your tank - which you haven’t mentioned here.

Aside from that, I’d like to see a greater number of Black Neons since they’re an incredibly social schooling species. Similarly, I’d probably separate the Betta as they’re an aggressive, solitary species which doesn’t benefit from being housed with others and prefer temperatures a little higher than the high end of ideal for a Bristlenose.

For a good school of Black Neons and the Albino Bristlenose I don’t think I’d advise anything smaller than a 29g for the long-term, with a minimum of 10g for the Betta to enjoy on their own. Other factors to consider when assessing your care is filtration, flow level, substrate, decoration, temperature, parameters, and more.

And bear in mind that “a pond snail” can very quickly turn to dozens of pond snails. They’re asexual reproducers, and their egg sacs are small and translucent, so can be hard to find and remove them (if that is something you’d want to do). Many people consider them pests for this reason, but as long as you’re monitoring and managing your water quality - which ideally you will be anyway - their additional bioload shouldn’t pose too much of a problem in an appropriately-sized tank.

No. I mean you’re kids who have fallen hook, line, and sinker for a movement that is harming you. Talk to any detrans woman to know how. And I don’t condone the radfems who are making fun of you. I certainly said and did things when I was younger that I don’t agree with now, and getting bullied online about it didn’t do a damn thing to change my mind. My post was really an attempt to call people off of yelling at you. I don’t think y’all are inherently dumb or anything. Just that you’re young. And when you’re young, you’re vulnerable and impressionable. And I don’t think making fun of you and your friend is going to help you in any way. Regardless of how you identify, I prioritize females in my feminism—even ones I disagree with.
