Over a year ago Amanda Waller was chosen to lead a group of remarkable characters. All of those who volunteered were and are still prisoners from Belle Reve Penitentiary. Together they were sent on missions that no law enforcer or superhero was in the know of. These missions were so dirty and dangerous that they could only be done by the lowest of the lowest. Task Force X isn’t called the Suicide Squad because their missions consist out of cuddling pandas. There is no guarantee they’ll make it out alive, whether they get killed by their opponents or the bomb implanted in their neck, but if they do make it out alive at least their prison sentence will be shaved by a few years.
Over the past year the members of Task Force X have proven to be obedient to Amanda - or the bomb in their necks - and so it is time for them to take the next step. Gotham is known to be filled with rats and scum and for the longest time it was to be believed that Batman took care of them all, filling the cells in Belle Reve. But the numbers keep growing and the collective cells of Belle Reve and Arkham Asylum are overflowing. With certain hope lost in Batman, Task Force X is now sent out to Gotham, not only to infiltrate but also to help Waller catch every last of them - whether they’re friend or foe. As usual it is asked of them to fly under the radar, but Waller knows better by now.
How it all comes together
With superheroes and vigilantes roaming the streets of Gotham you may imagine the members of Task Force X may not receive the warmest welcome considering these vigilantes were responsible for their imprisonment. Despite the fact that they’re told to lay low, vengeance is after all their middle name and it is only inevitable that they run into each other again. While Waller’s instructions were clear and the Squad has been warned that if they intervene with the vigilantes or strike up a fight that their heads will pop off, she never said a thing about striking up a friendly conversation though…
However, Waller’s biggest concern isn’t about the feuds between the Squad and the heroes, it’s whether the Squad will ring in Gotham’s most wanted, considering how friendly some of them are with their new targets.
