New Age of Earth, Ashra (1976)

I’ve previously written about the potential for glory in Ash Ra Tempel’s music, in its sense of extraterrestriality and capacity to spark imagination, and how the band’s first three records only released such potential in flashes. New Age of Earth achieved all that as a whole album. Manuel Göttsching on his own, twinkling away, urging out universes through rippling beats, undulating waves, beams of particles; the listening experience is journeylike and transportive but not of this world, instead laying out a path to imaginative freedom.
