To Akai: Business dealings? You gotta explain. I mean, you are a youkai and youkai tend to eat humans. Not to mention, you work for the devil herself, Mima. Aaaaaaaaaaaand you have the ability to manipulate blood. So, mind shedding some light on this situation.
"I assure you, it's nothing involving humans. It's rare enough for a bat youkai to come into contact with a human-- we try to avoid them actually, and it's even rarer for us to eat humans," Akai explains.
"If you really want to know about our business, I suppose I can tell you, but try to keep it on the down-low, ok?" She clears her throat before continuing. "The bat youkai of my clan tend to eat insects and insect youkai. Now, some insect youkai are highly toxic, and you need to process them before you eat them. Venom glands need to be removed, organs need to be drained, etc. Of course, then you're left with a lot of poison that's just... lying around." At this point, she pulls out a small tube of a slightly off-color but clear liquid.
"Particular varieties of poison in varying amounts, can produce a wide range of effects on different kinds of youkai," Akai explains, holding up the tube. "For instance, this diluted Ōmukade poison can have a psychotropic effect on tengu, and so it's sometimes used by them as a sort of recreational activity. So if we have any Ōmukade poison, we can sell it to the tengu for a modest fee. We also sell the undiluted stuff, but for a much higher price-- given that it can be deadly in a large enough quantity."
"Wait, so your clan is basically tekiya, then?"
"Hmm, not really, but also maybe sort of? We're picky about the quality of our goods, and if we suspect someone is getting addicted to something, we cut them off. We're also very selective about who we sell undiluted poison to." Akai carefully puts the poison back in her sleeve. "But that's really only one branch of our business. Because bats are small and can fly, it's easy to avoid detection, so the Makumori clan also specializes in information gathering-- you know that already, though."
"That's true, I have had you gather intel for me a few times... say, why are you carrying that poison around, anyway?"
"Well, it has several uses, depending on how you apply it. Since it's diluted, I can apply a little bit to my wrists and neck as a repellent for certain parasites that can get pretty annoying this time of year. Like bat flies, ticks, and door-to-door proselytizers."
