I just - gay men and women do not get a free pass because they are marginalized. No one gets a free pass. Biphobia stems as much from the homosexual community as it does from the heterosexual community. The last time I tried to join a lesbian social networking cite - it said LESBIAN AND BISEXUAL WOMEN on it and everything - people shunned me for dating a man even though BISEXUAL WAS CLEARLY PART OF THE COMMUNITY.

I know all this from personal experience as much as statistics and data. When I was just discovering my pansexual attractions, my sister came out as a lesbian to our parents. She spent most of my teenage years spouting out biphobic things - bisexual people are cheaters and whores, bisexual people can't pick a side, bisexual people are ruining the lesbian and gay movement, etc. It delayed my coming out for at LEAST six years, maybe even more. I STILL haven't come out to her

The sister I have come out to - who is heterosexual - was completely supportive. Her bisexual boyfriend confirmed that this is a major problem he faced in the queer community. Not to mention, he and I do not actually benefit from being perceived as "straight." Yes, we can hold our partners' hands as we walk down the street, but our identities are erased and we are still very much at risk for ridicule if we come out or act as ourselves. That's not privilege, not even a little.

I never said bisexuals have "straight appearing privilege" actually. That's ridiculous. But you're just making stuff up as you go and ignoring the fact it clearly says i'm nb trans and poly but whatever keep putting words in my mouth.

Instead of talking over us - these people who are angry at anti-monosexual talk - they should listen what we have to say. No, bisexual people do not want lesbian and gay folk to be attracted to more than one gender. We want them to accept that we are, and that we would like to receive the same respect and acceptance in the community as anyone else. Sometimes we may make jokes or talk about monosexuals in ways that aren't completely kosher, but it's a way of letting off steam - metonymy

Monosexuals have privilege as a whole group over bisexual people. We have a right to release our frustrations same as any other group does - trans/nb, gay lesbian, non-white, women, etc. Erasing our voice is problematic, and doesn't really make the people doing so any better then dudes going "not all men!" or cis people going "you're cisphobic!" That's all. Sincerely, a pan/bisexual person.

No they don't. Monosexual privilege isn't a thing, bisexual ensure is, heteronormaltivity is. These are the terms you really mean when you talk about "monosexual privilege"

There really is a problem in bisexual/asexual/pansexual/polysexual etc. erasure in the LGBT+ community because we AREN'T unified. I know plenty of gay men and lesbian women who don't think I'm queer, or call me "halfway queer," and this affects everyone in the non-monosexual group. As such, the movement EMPHASIZES "gay marriage" rather than same-gender marriage, and completely ignores uniquely bisexual issues. This is further emphasized by the media, but homosexuals contribute to the problem

And of course that erasure affects the trans/nonbinary communities as well for similar reasons! Lesbians not wanting to date people with penises, or gay men not wanting to date people with vaginas, are still a major issue in the trans/nb community. I have met very few homosexual people who do not treat me and my transman friend with instant distrust and ridicule

Not to mention this essentially leaves bisexuals as alienated from the community. We can't find people of the same gender to date, because they're worried we'll cheat on them or leave them for someone of the opposite gender; we can't date people of the opposite gender for similar reasons and general queerphobic reasons; and if we do find someone of the opposite gender to date, we get called less queer and are alienated from the movement. And most of that stems from homosexual people
