Is there a specific number of gaps between Mariko’s gen and Goku’s or is it just “really far off”? Because I was doing research on something else with TVTropes and, as things usually go with TVTropes, one thing led to another and I came across the half-human-hybrid trope. And under that trope, I read that in GT, Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr turned SSJ for their fight. So it would be possible for the Saiyan blood to run through many generations and still have them come out as SSJ.

Part 2:  That’s... assuming you take GT into consideration with your blog’s canon. But that does support that one art of you drawing Mariko transforming and in case you had any mixed feelings about whether to go with it or not, it’s at least not unreasonable to give Mariko some more Saiyan aspects despite the long generation line. Or even to maybe give her the opportunity to naturally grow a tail?

Wow anon, first of all, thank you for the question. It’s flattering to know people are that curious about Mariko! I’ll answer both questions on the same ask, so it’s easier to keep the thread.

So technically, I imagined Mariko being like, the tenth generation from Goku -- for someone like us, it’s like considering people around 1500 or so. Long enough to lose track of who you descend from, and to consider tales from back then nothing but legends. Although, if DB releases some facts that might hinder Mariko’s character, I am keeping an option open to edit some of these details.

Now, I did keep in mind GT, but Goku and Vegeta Jr are still quite close to Goku and Vegeta in terms of generations. And, most importantly, they kept fighting through the years. When Mariko came to be, fighting lost importance through time, and people even forgot what a Super Saiyan was. Even Vegeta Jr says something along the line of “I thought I was the only one able to do that blonde hair trick”, so imagine further years after that! Saiyans are nothing but very old legends in the era when Mariko was born. Kinda like unicorns for us.

Now, Mariko’s closer ancestors didn’t fight for many years, she didn’t fight for many years, and there is also a whole idea I have where Capsule Corps basically made sure that evidence of ki and Dragon Balls disappeared as years went by. So Mariko grew up with no background to her potential -- not in practice, and neither in theory. She starts off as nothing more than a human with something strong awakening inside her. Which is what leads Trunks to scout her for the Patrollers’ Academy.

So yes, as you anon cleverly considered, Mariko can turn super Saiyan, yes! And as DB showed us, hybrids do reach that level pretty quickly if they keep training constantly -- and the sooner they start doing it, the better, as Goten and Trunks proved. In fact, the more human blood there seems to be, the quicker they seem to be able to do “the blonde trick”. Mariko will take a bit more, because she has to make up for 16 years spent without proper training, but at the right time, with the right emotional trigger, she will become super Saiyan. It will be verse-dependant, but I can tell you there is a verse where this is close to happen.

As for her tail, I don’t think she will ever grow one -- apparently hybrids don’t get them, and certainly not as generations pass. So, as cute as tails can be (very, according to Mariko), she will not get a Saiyan tail. Mariko is a hybrid, and she needs to embrace and fully appreciate the implications of her mixed origins. In the end, that’s the ultimate real goal of her character!

You're lazy if you choose to adhere to someones trashy reblog karma rules? Are you so entitled to interactions you'd rather receive them from pity rather than a genuine interest? Let people live and get over yourself.

No, dear anon. But I do think that it is fair to promote interactions in a role-play community and sustain each other from that. I can see why people can choose to reblog from the source -- not my favourite, but to each their own. I wouldn’t block someone for reblogging from source right after I post an ask, or a meme.

My point is: there are blogs made for role-play meme creation purposes, and it is where I usually go when I think “hmm, let me find some funny asks”. But if I clearly see a friend/mutual who posted a list of asks  in the hope to get some activity/interaction going, pretending I did not see them and just reblogging for the purpose of my own fun doesn’t seem fair to them. I try to support them.

That being said, this is my policy, and if it’s not yours, fine. I am simply informing mutuals about it. Just like you could inform yours about your personal choices, instead of creating drama for the mere purpose of spreading drama. In the end, everyone is entitled to deal with their RP activity the way they prefer, as long as there’s respect about it (which you clearly lack of). If you disagree, look away and follow your own path. No need to insult anyone, here.

Did you retake screenshots of Mariko for the thread with Shallot or did you recolor the orange into black? Either way, that’s some serious dedication for accurate iconing. In other news, Mariko looks really cute in that color. She also really looked cute in the picture of Shallot’s armor you drew. Hell, she looks cute in every picture you draw because your art style is adorable!

I edited some icons on purpose, yes. I am kinda perfectionistic and I try to match the icons (and the backgrounds whenever I can!) to the ongoing thread. Feels more… “Representative”?

I do agree that she looks very cute in Shallot’s armor – thank you for liking my art! o//w//o But I prefer her in orange and blue. Not only it hints at Mariko’s origins…

… It makes Mariko and Shallot’s colours complementary! (Funny enough, this was never planned, as Shallot was introduced way after this blog was created and the shipping with @shallxt even later on!)

The universe where Mariko has to drink beer for the greater good is a universe I wanna live in. Unless she’s a mean drunk.

When drunk, she picks up fights with everyone and is very vocal about how much she likes Shallot. Like, embarassingly open about it.

Mariko is pure of heart, yes. Technically, she would be able to use it… If she was strong enough!

Too bad that ‘pure’ simply means ‘uncontaminated’, so…
