Are there really folks who didn't like the the new anime? It was so good tho! Thanks for posting content too. I'm so excited that the story is progressing! How did you get into Saiyuki/why did it stuck with you through the lack of updates?

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply.Well, there will always be someone that doesn’t like the animation no matter how good everyone else believes it is. Some people are highly critical of anime adaptations and will sneer at even the slightest change from the manga and think it’s no good. Some will not like the art because it’s not “good enough” or captured the original artist’s work.

To each their own. There will always be purists out there as I like to call them, who will never even look at the anime, and that’s cool. As for the art style, Minekura’s style is VERY HARD to capture (myself, I can’t really like Saiyuki fan art because of this very reason), so I think as a studio, Platinum Vision did an incredible job capturing her style. I won’t lie, there have been a few goofs here or there, but overall I think they did an excellent job that for me it’s more than enough to ignore the goof ups.

In the end, what matters is as long as YOU enjoy it on your on terms, it doesn’t matter what anyone else has to say. By all means, I say always listen to other’s opinion with an open mind, but what matters that most is always yours.

To be frank, I would have been quite fine and even would have welcomed filler episodes just to see more of the guys being…the guys. It’s always warms my heart watching their every day shenanigans going from town to town on the road West.

I honestly love Saiyuki Reload & Gunlock even when a lot of people have beef with it because of the fillers and changes from the manga, hah hah. In my opinion, you should take it all in ^^v all media formats add to the world of Saiyuki.

Now how did I get into Saiyuki?

Back on the summer of 2005, a friend of mine started randomly talking about “Goku is cute”, except then I was Dragon Ball Z Goku! I thought it was odd she’d say that, but sure, I guess DBZ Goku can be cute. This was followed by her showing me a screenshot of our Saiyuki Goku from a Reload Gunlock.

I was immediately intrigued and asked her where this was from. My first thought was as soon as she told me that her and a group of friends in common were watching this was “Oh no, here we go with another ‘flavor of the month’ anime”, and then I sighed. I could never keep up with their binge watching.

Yet, there was something about it that caught my attention enough that for a change, I said I would watch this new “flavor of the month”, even if it merely was because Goku seemed like a cute character and would be entertaining enough.

The result? I watched the first episode of Saiyuki Reload GUNLOCK– YES, GUNLOCK– that’s where I started– and, I was impressed that it was above all an action series with humor on the side. Sure enough, Goku was as cute as I thought he’d be, but what I never foresaw coming was that by episode three my attention would completely turn towards a total asshole gun-totting trigger happy chain smoking foul-mouthed short-fuse son of a bitchblonde Buddhist monk, which, my first thought when I heard and saw him on episode one of Gunlock was….

“Who is this stinkin’ short-tempered foul-mouthed jerk that SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD MAN?!!”

Upfront, Sanzo should have been everything I disliked, but then something about him that I couldn’t stop looking. And for however grumpy he was, then came near the end of episode 2 of Gunlock where Sanzo smiles– genuinely. Then I realize there had to be more to this guy….and the series. From there, I looked up more info, found the manga, fell in love with Minekura’s unique art style and went down the hole of Saiyuki Hell which I’ve been in for the past 12 years and counting.

Sure, I’ve had my breaks, in between during the hiatuses of the manga, but there is so much material to be enjoyed, and, as I don’t really get into series or franchises very often, I like to mostly focus on the series I love the most.

Even though I have liked and experienced many things since 2005, Saiyuki has always been there and Sanzo whenever I needed it the most. In a few words, I like it because it reflects a lot of the personal values I have and my own outlook on things, especially Sanzo. I see myself a lot in him in many ways and why I love him so much!

Hi there Anon!Yes, you’re more than welcome to to use my scans for edits, such as blog banners, wallpapers, etc. I just ask for a link-back to the scan itself, or my user name or blog if you’re using multiple scans.For small avatars/icons, you don’t have to credit me, but I always appreciate a link-back or just a nod/message you’re using it. Again– for this, not required but it’s appreciate it.

Finally, if you make things like wallpapers or banners, I’d love to see what they look like, so feel free to drop a link with whatever you end up making!

Especially when it comes to Code:Realize, there’s just so many things we miss out on as Western fans, well because all the fun bonuses are limited to Japan.When the game just wasn’t enough, that’s why I seeked to get as many of those bonus mini dramas and pictures and anything Code:Realize! I want more and more fans to get into it, plus get more of the story.

Do you happen to know where to find more of Miko's art? The Code: Realize images are soooo good!

You can check out websites like “Minitokyo”, which is a high resolution image gallery. It requires an account though (it’s free) and you’ll have to post a little bit to unlock image download.

Alternately, I recommend supporting the artist and purchasing some of the official books available. Here’s a few to get you started, available at Amazon jp.:Code:Realize ~Princess of Genesis~ Official Art Book - Yes it’s available again for international shipping (though with a 10 to 13 day wait).

Code:Realize “Design Works” - background images from the game plus other official art.

Code:Realize “Visual Guide” - a.k.a. the official game guide (in Japanese) but it also features a lot of art. 

miko 画集 TOIRO×Stripes! - An all-miko art book featuring art from her previous works, such as Beastmaster & Prince, Demon’s Bond (Juoni no Kizuna ) & other games from the PS2 era. Note this does not include anything Code:Realize as it was published before the latter came out.

Juoni no Kuzuna Official Art Book - self explanatory and more of miko’s art.

There’s plenty of Beastmaster & Prince books to be found there, so just search the site! I hope that’s of some help!
