My mom is retired now, but she had a policy in her class where if a student was so tired they fell asleep at their desk, she would wake them up gently and let them go sleep on a mat with a pillow near her desk. A lot of her students had terrible home lives, but some just had busy ones. She always said you can’t learn anything if you can’t even keep your eyes open, so she would just let them rest, and would catch them up later and/or make copies of another student’s notes for them. She also hated having to give her class homework, but it was required by the principal, so she would just give them like one sheet a day and none on Fridays. I wish more teachers would do that, because kids are people and their lives aren’t always easy, and everyone gets exhausted sometimes. I remember one morning in high school, I took a Benadryl for my allergies and dozed off in Spanish class. Scariest wake up to a yelling teacher ever! 😱anonymous
