Thanks for the tag @jennandblitz! I searched through a few fics. My words are beautiful | sharp | hand | sofa | dog.
Beautiful (as-of-yet-untitled Jily!)
She looked so beautiful standing there, just—
“I’m late.”
“For what?” asked James stupidly.
Lily rolled her eyes so hard that James thought it might have been audible. “My period, James,” she said in a withering tone, “my period is late.”
“Oh.”
Sharp (from On Peverell's Sands, WIP Cold War Jily)
St Peverell sits high on the cliff edge. Its face is turned west towards the Atlantic swell in a last farewell to the sun as it slips below the horizon line. With the sun’s descent, all definition is lost: the edges of the low stone cottages blur into the evening, and the white-lipped eddies swirling in the bay below become a mass of inky blue. Above them, seed-like stars start to emerge in the wide, open plains of the Cornish sky.
In the blue air, a car climbs the road up to the village. Its headlights sweep back-and-forth against the craggy hillside with each hairpin bend, like the methodical swing of the lamp in a lighthouse. The driver is a local—or, at least, familiar with the road, because the car doesn’t falter at the sharp, precarious turns. It keeps on, up the road and up again; through the village and beyond to the place where the road runs out and becomes the long, sweeping drive of Peverell Hall.
Hand (from I Am The Thing I Was, one of the many WIP one-shots for my Badger in the Lions' Den series)
“I don’t regret it,” Hannah says. “But I also don’t know if I was doing it because I was really into it, or because I knew Neville was into it.”
“Yeah.” Charlie runs a hand over his stubble. “I think I’m there, too.”
“How long has it been since you slept with a woman, by the way?”
Charlie pauses, his heart skipping a beat, before saying, “That bad, was it?”
Sofa (from Heartbeats (at an average of 60-100BPM), a Jily/Blackinnon medical AU)
“When he’s been courted by a pharmaceutical company and thinks he’s got a wonder drug, he’s Drughorn. He gets pissed at the Christmas party every year—Glughorn.”
Sirius nodded seriously as he got up from the sofa, and added, “If he’s in a good mood and lets us get away with a lot, he’s Shrughorn. If he’s done some complex surgery, he’s Smughorn.”
“We once walked past him eating McDonalds chicken nuggets in his car at seven o’clock in the morning. Nugghorn.”
“In case you were wondering, I absolutely despise them both,” Remus said mildly to Lily, holding open the door for her.
Dog (also from Heartbeats)
“Someone asked me if we were married today.”
“Again?” Sirius took a swig of beer, then added, “I hope you told them I’ve bloody asked you enough times. I’ve been dogged about it—there was a point I think I developed repetitive strain injury from the amount of time I spent on one knee.”
Marlene gave a watery chuckle and shook her head. “That’s a lie. I think you only got down on one knee the first time.”
“The first time usually does the trick, for most people”
