Even though Sharon is very capable of defending herself and watching her back, Jake is very protective of her, often feeling guilty if she gets hurt and he wasn't there to protect her. Despite this, Sharon constantly tells him that even with his powers, he can't save everyone, but she adores the fact that he makes her his top priority.

Just like Jake is protective of her, Sharon is also guilty of being protective of him. With the knowledge that not much on Earth can actually hurt him, she constantly has S.H.I.E.L.D. and later Tony's AI scanning for any signs of Kryptonite, which not only weakens Jake but is fatal to him.

There were many things that Jake found he liked doing ever since he arrived on Earth when he was just fourteen years old; given that he grew up in the north, ice skating was one of those such things. He let Sharon meet the people who raised him when he first got to Earth. They were at the town's local ice rink, and he was teaching her to ice skate. "I can't believe that the great Sharon Carter has never ice skated before, finally something I'm better at than you; we're not gonna count my powers and whatnot," Jake said as he laughed. Catching Sharon as she nearly stumbled over. "What would you do without me, Carter?"
