So Jo had to say goodbye to her best friend/son figure in game today (as his player had to leave for work schedule reasons) - The Paladin Yurion. In game, he's heading off on a solo quest to find out what it is exactly his gods want from him, and he feels he can't keep working with the group and their employers if he wants to find it in time.
And it was just very sad and very soft.
I am feeling big emotions about it
My favourite part was when she gave Yurion a carved wooden medalion with the symbols of his gods on it, that she was going to have cast in metal and blessed at the temple to serve as a holy symbol for him.
As she handed him the handcarved wooden piece she said
"It's not finished, but I didn't realise you'd be leaving so soon. So maybe you can use it as a cloak fastner or something. I just... want you to have something from me, wherever you go. Just... Be safe, my boy. And when everything is over, you can come find me, because you'll always have a home here with me, if you want it. "
And the part where they admitted what they'd known for a while, that each saw eachother as mother and son... Which had been joked about out of character but because these big dummies can't communicate had never actually been said in character untill this point.
Y'all they're so soft. I can't. Two profoundly lonely but gentle souls on very different journeys, but they found eachother and changed eachother for the better.
I love dnd so much.
