How do you feel about dunesfolk?

Okay so, the first rule of socializing with a Dunesfolk Lalafell: never drink their tea.

Or, if you do, have an antivenom chaser handy. Temporary loss of one’s motor skills due to various viper and scorpion venoms they lace their teas with isn’t a fun time.

Being a native of Ul’Dah, I find myself pretty jealous of the adaptation their eye’s have made to living in the desert. A Plainsfolk like myself lacks this natural advantage, my family having moved to Ul’Dah shortly after the Autumn War according to my father. Not only that, I find them to be absolutely…mesmerizing to lose oneself in during conversation. Some more than others…

What was your childhood like? Did your upbringing influence who you are now?

My parents were both a pair of hard working Ul’Dahn merchants, dealing in all manner of trade goods. They were both very busy growing our family’s fortune most of the day, which often left me to my own devices, which was fine by me. In the evenings we always had our meals together, and it was there they would often tell me of the future that lay before me working as part of the family business. I still remember the day I was allowed to perform my first job for the business like it was yesterday.

I worked the entire night, eager to produce the yarns I had been tasked with. Finally finishing as the sun rose, I exhaustedly presented them to my father. My heart was in my throat as he appraised them, but then relief washed over me as he smiled and added them to the foremost display shelf. I remember practically falling face first onto my bed and sleeping well into the afternoon, awakening to find a small sack with some Gil coins and a note attached that read “Payment for services rendered” in my mother’s handwriting.

Oh I could definitely get used to this.

What are some things you enjoy?

I actually really enjoy All Saint’s Wake. Getting to spook friends and get away with it is a ton of fun. Especially when they give adorable little meeps and I get to tease them for it the rest of the night…

What is your outlook on the three major cities respectively?

So the three major city states. First of all, Limsa Lominsa. I do not enjoy this place at all truth be told. Everyone talks like they gargle rocks constantly which is enough to give me a headache on its own, the people also have a complete lack of respect for the rule of law, which some might argue offers the place a roguish charm, but it usually just leads to a lot of extra work trying to conduct proper business here.

Next we have Gridania. I actually really like the environs here, the problem is that the environs will rise up and destroy you if you sneeze on the wrong tree branch, and the locals treat any outsiders like they’re going to torch the whole place at any moment, It’s my favorite backdrop for filling crafting orders though. Great to visit, but I would never live here.

And finally, my hometowm, Ul’Dah. Outsiders view us as a greed driven people, and I can’t really argue with it truth be told. Avarice can be tempered by a drive to improve oneself and their home however, and while I don’t do any of this work for free of course, I’ll never swindle or cheat anyone. “A man’s reputation is far more valuable a commodity than his wares,” as my father always said, and I’m inclined to agree.

At any rate, that’s that. If those opinions ruffle any feathers, I’m not sorry.

Is there anyone you look up to?

Excellent question! There’s my parents, of course; taught me everything an Ul'Dahn lady should know about how to get ahead in life. And there’s also the legendary Shantotto, I feel she’s something of a kindred spirit, fry things first and sort ‘em out later, my kinda woman.

I also appreciate the industrious folks who built Idyllshire; striking out on your own and making a place for yourself in the world is a value I hold near and dear to my heart.
