Terror I imagine you are sitting at a fancy desk with a cute lil name plate labeled with "professional listener" and even though I can't see it behind the wood of the desk you are kicking your feet while sitting on the rolling chair.

So I assume you mean RPG horror (though looking up rug horror there's some pretty neat rugs out there XDDD) and these are games particularly used by RPG Maker or Wolf RPG Maker, but I'm sure there's now a bunch of new engines people are using. I mostly mean the RPG horror games mostly from the early 2000's to early 2010's, but I am on and off looking at newer RPG horror game stuff -- thanks for accidentally reminding me that I can do some binge watching exploring some of those newer games! I mostly just like watching them be played on YouTube because I, myself, am a massive puss. XD
Some popular ones are Mad Father, Misao, Witch's House, ib, Corpse Party, and Ao Oni. I am extremely partial to Mad Father though since it really got me into these games -- I even tried coming up with a dca au based off it, but that was when I was new to drawing for Tumblr and was too embarrassed to do anything like that again bc it flopped so hard AJFJSKFKSKF
(it wasn't anything crazy built up on at least, I just wanted to make eclipse as the mad father himself. XPPP I had ideas for Sun and Moon to be Aya the protag and Robin the one eyed child respectively, but didn't really expand upon that. Poor Mom, Ogre, and Maria didn't get any characters associated with them. Though low key a y/n set up as Maria would be a wild ride!)
Also going to highlight Corpse Party there -- even though the company that got its rights ran that franchise into the ground, the PSP version of the game and Book of Shadows are pretty good. I love the story and how the game leans into gorey and dark themes, even letting you collect name tags of people who died around the school with their cause of death. The little details add up so much! (It's also one of the things that inspired me to imply the lil horror story for the Secret Skeleton I made for you. Hehe don't worry that drabble is coming along nicely >:333 )
There's actually a good amount of Skin Walker-esk games in the RPG horror fandom and I eat them up because I am terrified by the premise entirely sjajdksjfj! I think the original one that popularized it was called Skin Walker Forest or something, the mood and atmosphere and art just are so awesome. Multiple endings too! Just imagine a creature that can perfectly mimic you or your friends with just a glance, or put on someone's skin after you know their dead and act just like them. It's so creepy!!!
I also really like Mermaid Swamp, it's not as revered as the ones I listed earlier, but I love it's subversions and the way it uses the other characters around you. The people you bring with you are a major part of learning the story even if they're originally not involved at all! It's very fun imo, though not everyone likes it from what I understand. It is a little confusing at times. XP
The hanged man anthology is iconic too! I think a good chunk of people would know about The Crooked Man game, but the same creator made more "odd man" games that take place in the same universe, though they all got much less attention than the 1st game. It's 4 RPG Horror games in this order: The Crooked Man, The Sand Man, The Boogey Man, and The Hanged Man. I really love the first and the last game though, they set things up and end things amazing! Really sets great messages and makes you care about the characters so much. :3c
The Fear and Hunger series is also one I'm a little fixated on, but it's less a RPG Horror game and more of a Demented Eldritch Survival RPG game with Horror elements/stories wjrkakfkskf. The second game is honestly a little more palatable than the first, but both have absurd amounts of nudity and phallic imagery that censor mods are created and even recommended to use to make the games just a little less disturbing. Both games play off the horrors of EVERYTHING, including the more heinous things, so it's a franchise to tread carefully with if there's any particular sensitivities with dark subject matter you may have.
It's also an extremely hard game XD It's fair though, even if a lot of runs are reliant on Luck. It has a coin flip system for looting, attacking, and dodging that makes everything feel so uncertain, but you just have to hope when it lands on Heads or Tails, it's the side you chose.
