His in-ring work is genuinely phenomenal, both in terms of wrestling and also in-ring storytelling. I could literally pull a thousand little examples but think about stuff like his drawing 'BCC' on his chest in blood after that match with Mox, or straining against PAC's arm to get to Bryan when the rest of the BCC turned on him, or the shit he did after that betrayal where he would depression-wrestle and then snap and go wild on his opponent. Non-promo stuff that does so much to sell a storyline and make his matches and segments feel impactful and thought-out. It's just such incredible storytelling and character work and I love that about him.

PLUS he wrestles like a beast and has big brown eyes; the full package, truly.

am i lame if i say none of it LOL. i feel like hotline was honestly just as good as ppl were telling me it was, there isn't a part of it i can think of off the top of my head that i thought people were overhyping. music fucks, gameplay fucks, story fucks, character design fucks, style fucks. i truly have very little bad things to say about it!

see the nice thing about being in small/lowkey fandoms is that i don't have to see a lot of ppl arguing abt pointless shit LMAO. the closest thing i can think of... probably when people complain about how the hlm games are "anti-violence games that are hypocritical because it makes the player enjoy violence while trying to make them feel bad for it" bc it's like. ohhhhhh my god you CANNOT actually be that dense. like i almost refuse to believe it..

i cannot express enough how dennaton IS NOT ACTIVELY DISCOURAGING YOU FROM PLAYING THE GAMES. they know they're making video games, they know that video games are (usually) supposed to be fun. i'd argue that they want you to have fun even, but they want you to ask yourself why it is that you're having fun in the first place. because objectively, every hlm character you play as in either game (except for maybe beard and richter) is a jackass. like that's not even up for debate, that's basically what the table sequence is about. but they're jackasses that we like and sympathize with.

why is that? why do we want to see them succeed even though we know what they're doing is terrible? why exactly is it that you want to keep playing, to see this thing until the end, when we all know how it's going to end up, anyways? everyone is going to have different answers to those questions. it's literally fine!

every hotline protag in 2 has different motivations and they are all motivations you can attribute to certain hlm fans irl (the fans just wanting some "action", regardless of the fact that they don't actually know what they're getting themselves into. evan getting himself into trouble just because he's so hellbent on getting a bigger piece of the picture, even though that picture is distracting him from what's actually important in his life. the son wanting to continue out his father's legacy and keep pushing forward regardless of the people he loves and fails along the way. i could go on). the table sequence is almost supposed to be a little inside joke between you and dennaton, because in asking all the characters why they came back, they're asking YOU why you came back as well. not to make fun of you, not to make you feel bad, but to see who you most relate to and analyze why exactly that is.

i can tell you right now, the members of the table sequence i most relate to are both evan and martin, because i want to observe as much lore about these games and their universe because i find it deeply fascinating, while also wanting to do the shit i'd never be able to get away with in real life because i don't actually want to do it in real life, i want to do it in a fantasy. i don't want to kill anyone. i don't want to cause harm that i don't have to. for christ's sake i'm studying to be a medical professional, i would NEVER want to hurt another human being, especially if i didn't think i had to for the safety of myself or those i care about. and i LOVE violent video games. i love causing mayhem and bloodshed and getting wild and ridiculous kills because it's fun and, most importantly, it's fake. therefore i will continue to play violent video games and NOT do any of those things irl, because i simply have no drive to do so. i don't feel bad for any of that. why should i? i'm not hurting myself, i'm not hurting anyone who doesn't want to be hurt. and this is obviously not the case for evan and martin, but within their universe, these are their actual thoughts and actions, not just fantasies, and that's what separates them from me.

in the ending of hlm2, dennaton is NOT punishing YOU for having a good time. they are punishing THEIR OWN CHARACTERS for being the godawful people they are, showing them that their actions have consequences. and sure, the only reason why they're here is technically because of you, because if it weren't for the game existing, for fans begging for a sequel, then none of these events would have happened. but in that same breath, if none of these events had happened, then there would be no game, there would be way less of a hotline fanbase, and dennaton would not be nearly as beloved as they are today. they almost definitely know that, and they're NOT upset with you for giving them fame and fortune. they're simply trying to tell you it's a little ironic that in being such avid fans of these characters, you have therefore caused their downfall because even from the start, that was the only way things were ever going to end.

and frankly, if you play hotline 2 and get mad because dennaton is poking a little fun at you and showing you that your actions have consequences as well, YOU ARE THE EXACT TYPE OF PLAYER THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE FUN OF.

in a way, i'd honestly equate it to how some deltarune fans act about kris and the soul. sure, i guess you could just not play the game and therefore kris would not have to deal with being possessed by you. but then what's... the point? the game is made to be played. you are not being punished for playing it, you are simply being implicated in the story more than you are comfortable with admitting. there is no nobility in standing your foot down and refusing to play. there is no nobility in playing it through to its entirety, either. these are both morally neutral actions, it is not anyone's fault that things happen the way they do. it just simply is how it is, because that's how it was scripted to be. and if you think that the story advancing as it was always going to because you played it counts as punishment?

So this sort of dynamic isn't my forte, but I would love to give it a try! The first thing that comes to mind is like... Leon needing a dog walker/dog sitter. College student Matthew trying to make some easy cash and Leon definitely overpaying the fuck out of him.

Leon lets him stay in his place while he's on roadies, which leads to Leon coming home late one night to Matthew asleep on his couch, Bowie on his chest. Leon doesn't want to wake him, so he throws a blanket on him, then makes him breakfast in the morning.

Not 100% sure how things start to progress between them, but definitely Matthew being a shithead little temptress and trying to seduce Leon. He's not in it for the money at all, he just thinks Leon is hot as fuck, but then Leon starts buying him things and taking him places and he sure as fuck isn't gonna say no...

This is far from the first time you've met a Porrim. Hell, you have met actual versions of your ancestor, as tragic and brief as those encounters have been.

It's been days since the revivification process and she's on her feet again, listening to Karkat's dancestor lecture her about something from where he sits on the couch. He's been struggling with staying standing -- you can't blame him, he's been dead for so long; many of your dancestors have long since forgotten things like gravity and nutrition in favor of clinging to memories of their lusi and homes. You've been secretly proud that Porrim has been doing well with the physical therapy, better than others. The lecture seems to stem from the fact that she had brought him a sandwich as a snack and he was offended that she had cut the crusts off.

"--furthermore, I'm perfectly capable of getting up, and furthermore I am perfectly capable of making food for myself, and even beyond that, I am perfectly capable of eating a sandwich with crusts on -- sincerely, the fact that you felt the need to do such a thing is more than condescending, it borders on hostility--"

Her ears keep twitching, and you can't get over how similar she looks to you from the back. "It's a little rude to stare," Porrim says with a voice that sounds not unlike your own. Her accent is a little more urban than yours -- she sounds like she lived in a city, maybe, rather than a big tower in the middle of nowhere. More relaxed. Casual. She sounds comfortable using contractions while you simply do-not, have-not, will-not.

"My apologies," you stammer out, looking at the floor. "I have been in the lab for the past week, I have not really gotten to meet anyone properly--"

"But that's not quite true, is it? You've been watching for a while." She crosses a tattooed arm over her chest and leans against an adjacent wall, crossing her ankles. Her ear twitches. "I can hear you, you know. Your pulse. You get nervous when you see me. You sound like you're on the verge of a panic attack right now, actually."

"I am fine!" You curl your claws into your skirts, trying to will your racing heart to quit betraying you. "I simply do not know what to say. It is difficult to understand how to approach..."

"It's not that hard," she retorts, taking a sizeable munch of one half of the sandwich. "You say hello, I say hello back -- look how easy, we're acquainted now. I'm Porrim."

"I sense that you have done this before," you mumble, chancing a look up. While you have difficulty with eye contact, she's staring directly at you -- you avert your gaze to the wall just past her, instead. You're not used to her with color in her eyes; every Porrim you've met before was a ghost.

"I've met plenty of Kanayas before. They're always nervous."

"Certainly." You don't know what to say to that. In that instant, it sort of felt like she pushed you away, a little -- shelved, like a book in the middle of a series.

"I'm trying to say not to be nervous. I'm not going anywhere, you can just talk to me." She polishes off half the sandwich, recenters the other half on the plate.

"Right..." The wind is out of your sails. This is not really how you imagined your first meeting, but it sounds like that first meeting didn't even matter much, in her eyes. You're at a loss for words to say. She seems to wait a minute before she stands upright again.

"Alright, well... you can reach out whenever you want," Porrim says, already moving to make her exit. "I have to go take care of this."

"Sure," you say, and you don't follow as she leaves. You've chewed the inside of your cheek raw, and now it tastes of blood -- nutritionally void, stuck between the sweet palette of the warmer hues and the savory palette of cooler hues, it tastes like nothing, not terribly unlike how you feel. From a room away, you hear them engage again.

"Hey, I realized I'm actually not that hungry. Would you eat this?"

"Fine, if only to keep you from wasting food. It is difficult for me to imagine that someone with your lack of foresight was supposed to be in charge of managing resources for-- wait, no, come back, I'll eat it--"

Pokemon Legends Arceus seems to be beloved by a lot of people but the gameplay style just isn't my thing. Not saying it's a bad game; I just am not personally motivated to ever play it myself.

I have way too many pokemon I like but if I HAD to just limit myself to six then:

Chinchou, Lampent, Driblim, Carbink, Flygon, Breloom.

I actually wouldn't mind trying to use this team in a mainline game.

I usually don't care enough about any of the characters (in the games) to actively hate anyone; even the really despicable main baddies. And I haven't watched the anime in years so I have no strong opinion about the characters anymore either.

At one time I had 5 piercings. I currently have zero because I went so long without wearing jewelry that all of them closed up. Let this be a lesson, kiddos. Piercings are use-em or lose-em.

I wear my hair very short. This is, in ascending order of importance, because I like how I look with short hair, it's easier to take care of and style on a day to day basis, and because I hate the feeling of my hair touching me (it's ok and even pleasant when I touch my hair though. Sensory issues are fun like that).

I have been growing some fruits and veggies in a container garden this spring, and have very recently harvested my first few strawberries!
