above all else, he means well.
the way i see it there's kind of two Ryan's.
The Ryan he was with Lucy, and the Ryan he was after Lucy.
young ryan was smitten, and i mean absolutely smitten with Lucy. They would have done the whole fairytale wedding thing if she hadn't disappeared.
he went to Beacon Hills High for a majority of his twelfth grade, but Gerard had him transferred to a boarding school just outside of town when he refused to stop seeing Lucy.
that didn't even put much of a strain on their relationship, tbh, they would still email constantly, and they even arranged to meet up late at night on the weekends.
he was a really big lacrosse player
he tried to stay out of his house as often as possible to avoid Gerard
he was never a particularly skilled hunter, and as the youngest of three he never really had to be--it was always assumed that Chris and Kate would carry on the family legacy.
he was actually really good friends with Derek, through Lucy at first, but they began to hang out together more and more as they got older. he still doesn't understand why Derek kept avoiding him for those months leading up to the fire at the Hale house--though Kate keeps insisting that he must have been planning the arson, he has never quite believed her.
he was really cute with Lucy's little brother Josh, okay?
he would hang out with him even on days when Lucy was busy; to him Josh was like te younger brother he never got to have.
after Lucy disappeared he was immediately pinned as their main suspect because he was her boyfriend, but Gerard put a stop to the police questioning almost immediately.
no one ever speaks about it, and honestly, at this point Ryan's not sure he didn't completely imagine it.
Gerard more or less pushed him to get married to Tiffany; who was from another powerful family of hunters.
when Tiffany started claiming someone was watching her, he didn't think much of it, at least not until he woke up the morning after she died (another case where he was the main suspect) with his wedding ring burning hot as fire on his finger.
Ryan is really just someone who made mistakes as a kid, and is still paying for them today, whether he knows it or not.
